If you want to remove the drivers completely before reinstalling, click 'Start' > 'Printers and Faxes' > 'File' > 'Server properties' > 'Drivers', locate the printer and remove.

Open a Command Prompt window by clicking 'Start' > 'Run' and type in "cmd" [without the quotes]

At the command prompt type [without the quotes]

"net stop spooler"

[wait for the message and type, without the quotes]

"net start spooler"

[wait for the message and exit]

Go to 'Start' 'Printers and Faxes' 'File' 'Server properties' 'Drivers' and check that the drivers are gone.

If that doesn't work, try this.

If you wish, create a Restore Point before continuing.

Click 'Start' > 'All programs' > 'Accessories' > 'System Tools' > 'System Restore'

Click Start > Click Run > type in 'regedit' [without the quotes] > click ok

At top of tree, right click on 'My Computer' and export the registry (makes a copy in case of problems).

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers

Under the Drivers key, there will be the keys named Version-2 and Version-3 (one or the other of these may be missing - not a problem)

Inside Version-2 or Version-3 will be printer driver sub keys.

If you see a key with the name of the printer you wish removed, right click on it and delete it.

Exit the registry and do the command prompt, net spooler step again..

How far along before the message?
I assume you start the installation cd, then it tells you to plug the usb cable into the printer, is it after the printer gets connected to the pc that the message comes up?

I'm out of ideas.
You are the Administrator - right click on the installation file and select 'Run as'.
USB is turned on in the BIOS and there are no ! messages in My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager against the USB controller.
Your going to have to find an Epson, or at least a printer support forum, unless someone jumps in here.
