New, larger HDD model of Xbox 360 coming?

article published on 9 March, 2008

Microsoft may be planning to upgrade the Xbox 360 Pro to a 60GB HDD model, if new rumors are to be believed. The mid-tier model of the popular game console currently offers 20 GB of storage and the new rumor touts that Microsoft will be replacing the stock 20GB drive with the much higher capacity 60GB drive. The upgraded console will come at the end of May or early June and although no ... [ read the full article ]

Well, it's about time. Maybe, just MAYBE I'll buy another Xbox360 but I seriously doubt it but this is good news though.

Yeah, I think Sony is the one to be calling "ipod". I mean, it's great that Sony released 20, 40, 60, and 80GB models. But it's not so great that Microsoft JUST released ONLY 20 and 120GB models. Not much of a choice and a HUGE price difference.

Microsoft should've release different HDD models a long time ago instead of just now. Hats off to Sony and somewhat Nintendo for actually making their console expandable. With the SD card slot in the Wii to the HDD upgradable PS3 (200GB HDD FTW).

But its true. demos, movies, games from xbox live arcade, etc..

Internal blu-ray is I suppose interesting but wouldn't that mean switching over to blu-ray discs like PS3 from dual layer DVD's like 360 currently has? What a pain.. (>_<)

To many versions of next-gen consoles. Keep it simple like Nintendo.

cant blu-ray drives still play dual layer DVD's though, so a internal Blu-Ray drive will just upgrade ur xbox to play blu-ray movies AND playing all your old games on DVD? this would be a good thing!

All consoles are necessarily "simple". It's just a matter of hardware and whatnot. HDD size is the main concern though. You have the ability to upgrade your Wii, not really the HDD inside but by using a bigger SD card.

So it's not just Nintendo where things are considered "small" or simple, if you want to take it like that. PS3 and 360 offer other things like demos, movies, games, etc. Thus meaning, bigger HDD options, which is where Sony comes in as smart. Easy HDD upgrade options. Unlike Microsoft where like I said earlier, you only have 2 options, 20 or 120GB.

I actually own all 3 systems. I find the wii the most entertaining. I have guitar hero as well. I dont mind not being able to download new music. There are to many violent games on the 360 and the ps3 has a small selection of games. So the wii is better, especially because they dont have to keep changing their product to aconadate changes to their service because they couldnt provide what the consumer wanted at first.

I still sense fanboyism in this post. How can you go off and say that you own all 3 and also say that the 360 has too much violent games and the PS3 doesn't have enough? And because of that, the Wii is downright better, right? So if you think the Wii is sooooo much better than the other two, it would make sense to only own the Wii, again....right? All 3 systems have their advantages and disadvantages, thus making your post/statement invalid.

And please, lets not try to derail this thread and turn it into a flamewar/console war/fanboy thread.

When I say better, I don't mean it's better in things that it offerers and it's power. I simply mean that Nintendo seems to have thought out their sales plans better than Sony and Microsoft. BTW,if anything, I'm a complete Sony fanboy.

None of this interest me. Internal Blue-Ray will put it up there with the PS3 price... which I'm not willing to pay. $349 was hard enough for me to cough up. 60gb HDD... i'll worry about that if GTA4 DLC and Mass Effect DLC take up like 10 gigs combined. I prefer to DL movies from sites based around the PC since you can own those rather than just rent them for 24 hours.

Good point. Interal blu-ray would possibly boost the price of the 360. Unless they just want to be idiots and keep it still the same price. And I emphasize idiots.

Microsoft won't add a internal blue ray. there are legal issues. if there is an internal blue ray then Microsoft will be chatgrd a percent of what the entire device costs. now if it is external that microsoft will only be charged for the external portion of there drive, not the entire product.

this happened to sony. when they build recovers they have an external ipod dock instead of a internal one.

Sony and MS can work out a deal where the cost is transfered to the consumer so if they can strike a deal they both like it can happen.

Oy, the air is full of fanboyism... As for the article, this just seems like a copy of the PS3 with the changing of HDD sizes.
