As above I heard you can flash them with out an actual chip now is this true? If so how do I do this what do I need?

Please put me in the right directions

I'd think if the Passkey (modchip) wasn't needed for the 79 anymore, it would of made the news on a bunch of different sites. I frequent a few daily and haven't read anything.

To be honest,v79 drives are the hardest drives to flash and drive me "crazy" when i think about flashing them.One reason is cuz you have to solder a chip so u can bypass the firmware and make it ready for flashing.anyways....First,order an Infectus keychip or the other so called "79 passkey" google search it and youll find it.
Next,Youll need SOLDERING skills.Bcuz u will have to open ur 360,take the drive out,open the v79 drive,solder the passkey chip on the drives main control or whatever,then use Firmware toolbox like usual to flash it.Youll do alright after u get the soldering done and when u close the drive back up.From there you can take it easy and flash it like an ordinary drive.I suggest going to www.360mods.net and downloading the tutorial by Textbook.I believe its called "Hacking the Xbox 360 for Noobs."I have it to...It helps.So after your done reading the tutorial and have all ur materials.Order the keychip and watch a vid on how to solder the chip.Google search "79 passkey" so you can find it then buy it and solder.GOOD LUCK(THIS WAS LONG AS HELL)

I would recommend the Maximus 79PassKey with the header kit,just becuase in my opinion it has an easier install process.If you watch the 360 epoxy removal video you get a good view on how to install the header kit for it as well.When you watch the video look for the TSOP flash removal part,which is almost the same as soldering the header kit for the 79PassKey.Just be careful with the epoxy removal part,and don't try to opt for a different solution.Use the hot air gun like they are using,and put it at the same temperature they mention.I seen alot of people having trouble with the epoxy removal part.
