Problems with mpeg-2 streams

I have been using tivo-to-go since it came out, and my general procedure is to transfer the program from the tivo to my computer, then edit out the .tivo part using directshowdump. Afterwards, i use videoredo to edit the commercials, then using TMPGEnc DVD author, i convert to .vob files and burn to a DVD.
I have had 2 files recently that have caused big problems. I was able to clip the files with directshow dump, but when i used videoredo, i get tons of resync errors causing a bunch of video frames to be removed. i figured something was off with the files and have been trying to repair them ever since, but haven't had much luck.
i have tried using TMPGEnc to demux, then remux the files, but i either get repaired video with no audio, or illegal mpeg audio errors.
i have also tried xmuxer with similar results.
does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix these files, or settings in any of the programs that i have used that might make things better?
i appreciate the help!

so i used virtualdub and made a .wav file for the audio. i tried using that with TMPGEnc as well as Xmuxer, but neither will allow me to remux the video with the .wav file. i tried remuxing in virtualdub, but it only seems to create avi files and the resulting file was way, way to big.

thank you, that worked! now the only problem i have is the audio is out of sync with the video. any suggestions for how to resync?

so i played around with files last night and used mpeg2vcr, but i still had a pretty big problem with the audio being out of sync. i went back and looked at the file and it looks like everything starts out fine, but about 30 minutes into the file, the audio jumps ahead by a significant amount (at least 10 minutes).
i reloaded the original file in virtualdub and had it analyze and convert the audio again and got the "anachronstic or discontinuous timestamp" error indicating a problem with improper joining. there were 2 audio errors and 1 video error.
is there any way to repair these errors to get the audio to sync better?

well, i've gone back and forth with this thing. i started all over and went through all the suggestions, but i still get an out of sync file. i can get the file separated and remuxed, but the audio is way off.
i feel like the major problem is the audio file, and it seems like most programs i run it through end up chopping out a chunk of the audio that causes it to be out of sync when added to the video.
any other thoughts on working with the audio file?
the video file seems to be ok and intact the entire way through, by the way.

i believe so. it looks like a chunk is missing at a certain point whenever i try to extract the audio (i figures this was where the joining error was) causing it to be off. but it is more than a few seconds, so it makes it hard to tell.

Download TMPGEnc v2.524.63.181. Double-click TMPGenc.exe to run the application. After you click OK on the copyright window, click cancel on the Project Wizard window. Now, go to File, MPEG Tools, Merge & Cut tab. Next click Add to browse for flawed files; select an Output and give it a new name. And finally, click Run.

alright, i ran it through tmpgenc just like you suggested and used the merge/cut tool. the resulting file runs perfectly up to the 27:35 mark, which is where i thought the original problem was. at that point, the file stops, so the output file was only like 40MB large and lasts about an half an hour rather than the 3 hours the program is.

Have you used 'Quickstream Fix' on the source file in VideoRedo to see if it can output a usable mpeg.
If so, Can TMPGenc be used to edit the file before conversion.

Thanks Pryme, I will try that this evening. Attar, I tried quickstream fix on the file first. Because of the audio problem, it tries to sync the file by deleting a large chunk of video frames.
As I mentioned above, when I run the original file through TMPGEnc and demultiplex it, the resulting video file is perfect all the way through. When I look at the audio file after demultiplexing, there is an error at about the 30 minute mark that causes a portion to get deleted and I then can't get the audio and video to sync up.

DGIndex can demux mpeg/transport streams and if you choose to have the audio as a wav file, I find it corrects the sync.

well, i tried super v2008 and at the 30 minute mark where the audio problem is, it just inserted no audio, but the audio comes back in later, but is off. when i previously remuxed audio and video, the audio would be inserted at the 30 minute mark, but would end about 30-45 minutes before the video would end.
i also tried DGIndex, and when processing the audio, it gets hung up at 30 minutes and then is able to finish, but when i play the audio back, it also is out of sync.

i thought i might try a different approach. i got another copy of the file from someone else, but their video is not as good as mine. how do i edit a mpeg video file, then multiplex it to an audio file? none of my video editing software can handle elementary streams.

If you use DGIndex and get one good video .m2v and one good audio.ac3 they can be multiplexed together.
This is the only multiplexer that I know will handle HD mpeg.

The problem is that because of a sofware bug, the ac3 audio source has to be typed in.
Remember to check the 'Settings' tab for the correct output type (MPEG) else it defaults to SVCD..
If the new audio track is not exactly the same as the old video, then I think either the video or the audio will have to be trimmed..
TMPGenc perhaps can do that.

I can get a good video when demultiplexing, but I just cannot seem to get a good audio file.
