I am new to all of this, and following the directions on this site for DVD to 16:9 DivX creation. for some reason, I am unable to get any video to show in VirtualDub....I was thinking it was something with the VFAPI codec, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions appreciated. Also, are there any tutorials for SVCD or a better quality mpg conversion for media player?

Yeah, issue is probably that you didn't install the VFAPI codec but just ran the converter -- you need to install the codec (in same package) as well in order to get it working correctly.

Unfortunately we don't have SVCD guides available yet, but I recommend that you take a look at these two excellent sites for instructions:

I'm sorry if I'm asking dumb questions, but the screenname speaks for itself...which file would the codec be and will it self install or do I have to do it manually? fyi-I have win pro2000 os

Extract all the files from the .zip file into temp directory and run the vifpset.bat and it will install the codec -- you might need to boot your machine after this in order to get the installation completed.

Hopefully this is the last question I will have. Also, I wish to thank you for replying so rapidly. I ran the batch file, but then i moved a few of the files in my DVDstuff folder, and TMPGENC will not recognize a .d2v file anymore. I attempted to delete both the TMPGENC and VFAPIRC folders and reinstall both. They both installed correctly, but it still will not recognize the .d2v. Once again, any suggestions are appreciated, and thank you very much.

You need also to install the VFAPI for TMPGEnc -- you find it from TMPGEnc's homepage at TMPGEnc.com/" class=korostus target="_blank">http://www.TMPGEnc.com/ (download section).

Once again, I am using the guide on this site..this time the DVD to DivX 16:9. I have the following Problem...Everything works precisely as it should, and I am pretty sure that my selections are correct, but my avi's come out about twice as long as they are calculated to be by the bitrate calculator. For example: I tried to do Mortal Kombat and shot for 1300MB but ended up with nearly 2400! Is my audio being processed at too high a rate?
