Unlocking Smash Characters

I didn't want to interrupt the other Smash Bros. forum with this, but has anyone done any significant playing and/or research to determine what the best/quickest way is to unlock all of the characters? I've probably played 25 or more brawl matches, but I've only unlocked like 2 new characters so far. I also started the weird story-driven mode, but after like 2 1/2 hours I'm only about 30% done. Anyway, let me know what you guys think.

all brawl related posts has to go into that thread. mods will close any new threads.

subspace emissary is the best way to unlock everyone without doing other requirements. i'm almost done with it, and only missing 5 or 6 hidden characters. also, you learn how to use each character.

the brawl matchs is the fastest way but it took me 4-5hrs to do it not 2 1/2 you have to do this 450times u will unlock alot of other stuff along the way to like music stages and others so its not all bad

BTW adambar - in the 1st post of the thread are instructions for unlocking the characters - this was when the Japanese version came out.
