does anyone have a pinout to build a male to female db9 cable from spare wires, etc?
the explanation, and why its relevant to wii:
i just recieved my yowii chip, did the install, everything was perfect, the chip lights up, and all the solder points look great. i turn on the wii, it still plays originals, but, ive already updated to the SSBB update, so whatever my yowiiw as preflashed with (probably yoasm 1.9 or 2 or something) isnt current enough to read back ups (this is my theory at least).
so i detach the chip (via clip) and plug it into the programmer..attach it to the pc with a db9 connector and a usb cord and try a few hex editors..all of them say no device detected. i try anther machine, multiple usb ports, different db9 ports, nothing. im assuming either the programmer is DOA or the connector im using isnt the right one... after all im just using a male to female converter instead of an actual cable. so i plan to just solder directly onto the programmers pins, and make a cable, but i need to know the correct pinout.
1. There is no standard pinout for a DB9 connector.
2. Assuming that you are connecting an RS-232 device, there are two pinouts, one if the device is DTE (Terminal type) or DCE (Modem Type)
3. The defacto pinouts for a PC which is typically a terminal type are pin 1 ground, pin 2 RX (in) pin 3 TX (out) The defacto connector for DTE is male and the defacto connector for DCE is female.
4.There are several control signals that your device may depend on for operation. I am not familiar with the device that you are using so I cannot advise you as to whether they should be wired up.
The manufacturer of the chip should be able to provide you with the exact spec. Normally, a male to female DB9 is straight through, with pins 1-9 connected to pins 1-9 on each connector.
i was assuming it would be, but since the connector didnt work, i figured maybe it was like a cross-over cable, and some of the wires were switched around
btw, this is the programmer. i purchased it with the yowii, it was made by the same people:
there arnt too many upclose shots. im going to try a strait 1-9 to 1-9 connection, and if that doesnt work, ill take pics of the programmer myself. thanks for your input
