Greetings All,

After reading many posts on the Wii I opted to purchase a unit with the wii key installed already (second hand) and have had great fun with it.

However, I am aware my Super Mario Galaxy disc cannot be played as a backup unless I upgrade the firmware of the modchip to 1.9g. There are many posts about this being unstable and having bricked many a Wii unit.

Does the Wii Key have a future as I have never seen the website online, or has the Cyclowiz v2 chip taken over as the preferred option for the future games?

I guess the Cyclowiz is no longer produced. I found it out of stock on all sites i've been to.

wiikey 1.9g has always worked for me no problem......use correct media and burn using IMGBURN and it should be good for you too!

Is the WiiKey still available? I believe the same team make the D2C key for the newer units.

I am considering buying another unit new and modding it with the D2C if it is supported and will play my backup of SMG.

However, I have only been into Wii for the last 2 months and have NEVER seen the wiikey website online.

Is it also no longer produced? I am not keen on upgrading to 1.9beta prefering to wait for a stable release.

D2CKey is not the best option at this time.

for D2C systems: available D2Pro, Argon, Infectus2 ... upcoming Wasabi.

for older systems: available wiikey ... upcoming Wasabi.

I recommend researching those chips (lil googling m8). Personally I think the Wasabi is the most interesting and would wait until that's had some reviews before making a choice. There will be others coming as well I reckon.

Regarding SMG - 1.9g has not bricked any units and I've never read anything to suggest that it's unstable.

Wiis are bricked by incorrect update of Wii firmware from out of region disk updates... not the wiikey. You can actually turn off region free on the wiikey as well so you can't run those disks.
If I read you correctly you have an original SMG and if that's already running then 1.9g is irrelevant unless you want to play SMG backup and if you do then it should not be a problem.
