ok here is what happen for me today:

1: I burn a copy of SSBB which update my wii system to able to read DL DVD. Which work great not thing wrong with the system what so ever.

2: After i play SSBB for a while i was kinda bore so I put in STAR FOX GC game. I then go to it menu and change it to wide screen. After that for some reason the wii message of death appear: "Unable to read the disc. Please push the power button to shut down the wii BLAH BLAH"

3: So after i read that message i just power down my wii thinking it just a normal read problem. I then restart the wii and for NO EFFING idea why but my system NOT READ ANY DISC AT ALL.(include some of the original game that i have.

4: so i figure oO the hell then i got to the config menu and my wii got FREEZE. -_- so after a while i pop the disc out and this ENABLE me to go to the system menu like the internet or other stuff BUT whenever i put in a disc >.> it freeze my wii when i got system menu sigh.

So here the run down of the problem i have right now:

a: Wii can't read any disc.
b: Can't go to system menu if there a disc in the dvd drive.
c: Can't read any disc at all (including 1.2 disc, 1.3 disc, 1.9b recovery disc oh well just ABOUT EVERY DISC wouldn't read).
d: weird thing is the dvd rom is spinning when i insert it. It just the disc channel just show the disc spinning and spinning doesn't recognize disc at all.
e: urrr don't know if this count but when i power off my wii the screen go black but the power light still green. To power it down to red i have to hold the power button for a few second.

So >.> anyone got any advice.

If your wii works as it should - i.e. you can access the settings menu etc. and change things there, then it's not a brick. I recommend you get a DVD lens cleaner and give that a go. There have been a few ppl with "dirty" lens problems which have come to light after running the DL update. Try a cleaner and see if you have any success. They are pretty cheap.

I have been hearing a lot of issues with the firmware 3.0 series from nintendo. Maybe they fixed the mod chip searcher that was suppose to block mod chips.??

ok try a few thing today:

1: try to unsolder my wiikey = same problem (so i guess it not the wiikey)

2: try cleaning the len with a q tip = same thing (so i go ahead and order a new wii laser unit)

Does anyone here ever change the wii laser unit that can give me some advice, instruction?

Supposedily theres a small variable resister on the driveboard somewhere. I've heard some people say that if u turn the resistance down it lets more power to the laser and the wii can read disks better. I've never played with that myself but I'd advise trying that before u go taking the laser unit apart.
