Okay, I've asked about a problem with DVD-Flick before, when the sound came out in bursts. Suggestions were to reduce the burn speed, let DVD-Flick perform a second path and to keep the PC free from other tasks. I've done all that and now the sound is OK. But the subtitles don't show up on the TV screen. They do show on the PC, though. I've seen other threads where the answer to this was that this doesn't prove anything. Well, yes it does indicate though that the subtitles are there. But for some reason they're not "good enough" for the stand-alone DVD player to notice them.
Here's what I've got:
The video file is called: No coutry for old men.avi
The subtitel file is called: No country for old men.srt
The DVD was burnt at a speed of 2x, and I didn't touch the PC during the roughly 4 hourse while the programs were doing their stuff.
There's a curious fact that may indicate what's going wrong: I saved the project AFTER adding the subtitles file, but when I open it now, I get the message "Unable to open Subtitle file ."
I've checked the DVD-Flick guide several times to make sure that I do everything the way it's described there but I just can't get the subtitles to show up on the TV.
Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong? What I should try differently?

While checking whether there is already a thread about this problem I saw a reference to the VSO ConvertXtoDVD software. I downloaded the free trial version and gave it a try. It took considerably less time than DVD-Flick - and the subtitles show. But the watermarks of the trial version can drive anybody nuts!

Before I shell out the considerable amount for the full version, I'd like to see if I can get DVD-Flick to do the job. When I looked through the Doom9 guides I noticed that there are a few other tools for converting AVI to DVD, less pricy than VSO's product, but none of them mentions subtitles in the product description.
Does anybody here have any experience with the tools from hexisoft (Jessesoft) or zjmedia? Or can you suggest another package I could try?
