Hi, I hope someone can help me because nothing I try is working! I have some "avi" files that I want to burn to DVD-R so I can watch them on my stand-alone DVD player & TV. But EVERY program I try to use to convert these files to MPEG2 (so they can be turned into DVDs) refuses to load the files into the memory/workspace. What gives?!!

*These are (supposedly) AVI files. They all have "AVI" extention.
*I downloaded "G-SPOT" to verify codec used. It says they're all made using "XVID" codec.
*I've downloaded the XVID codec (at least one type of it... for I *CAN* play these files fine using Windows Media Player).
*Using Nero, I can burn these files to VCD just fine. And as I said, I can view them just fine using Windows Media Player (I have a recent Vaio desktop w/XP).
BUT...

No matter WHAT program I try to use to convert these files to MPEG2 (so I can burn them to DVD-R) the programs won't let me load the files into memory/workspace area. I've tried full versions of: "Click 2 DVD" (Sony) and "Ulead Movie Factory 2", and trial versions of TMPGE, and a few others. Each time I get to the part where I'm supposed to load the file I want to play around with, I get an error message, saying anything from just error to not recognized to possible corrupted to whatever, but none of these programs will let me load these files. Now I have a bunch of them, they all work fine playing them on Windows Media Player, and Nero recognizes them just fine for burning VCDs (but of course Nero won't make DVDs from AVIs) -- so why don't any of the others work? Only one other program I downloaded (forget name) gave a detailed error message... can't remember it correctly now, but said something about not being able to use Direct Show codecs, need Video for Windows codec files instead or something like that. But then again, this was just this one program. None of these other programs want to load the files I have. Now I've seen other people burn these same files onto DVDs, and I (supposedly) have the correct software to do so (for instance, Click to DVD or Ulead Movie Factory 2 lets me do it fine with other file types) so why won't these works? Do I need something else installed on my system? I did download at least one version of the XVID codec (before I did so, Windows Media Player wouldn't even play them.. now it does fine.. but none of these programs still won't let me load these files in). WHat gives?

Again, there are no viruses, the files have an AVI extention, G-Spot says they're encoded with XVID. I supposedly have XVID codec installed on my system -- as they play fine using WinMediaPlayer, and Nero lets me load them just fine for pressing VCDs. Why can't I use any of these programs right? There has to be some simple answer, but I'm at a total loss.

Please help people! I've been trying to figure this out for days! :()
Thank you, thank you!
