Okay I just got a new(older)computer running Windows XP SP2, 2ghz pentium 4, 1gb of ram, 100gb harddrive and a Lite-on DVD-rw DL burner. My old pc was had Windows XP sp2 1ghz pentium 3, 512mb of ram and 100gb harddrive and the same burner. My windows XP sp2 is clean fresh install.
When I put a dvd in and start analyzing it completely freezes my computer to the point where the mouse won't move and I have to hold in the power button. I have intalled and reinstalled DVD shrink. I have tried using dvd decrypter first and then analyzing the disc same thing happens but it usually get to about 95% and then crashes the computer the same way. My burning software is nero 6.
This all worked flawlessly on my older slower computer which is really weird. I expected this work better and faster on the newer computer. Don't know if it matter to your guys but the pc is a dell optiplex gx260.
Its probably a copy protection issue since dvd shrink hasn't been and won't be updated in years and WILL NOT handle the newer copy protection. you will need to rip with dvdfab decrypter FIRST before transcoding with dvd shrink or use anydvd behind dvd shrink. use this thread for your best options for backing up you're DVDs
Is it a clean installation of XP? If not,you may want to reformat.
Are your drives configured correctly and any loose cables?
40 pin/40 wire ribbons or 40 pin/80 wire ribbons? You need the 80 wire ribbons.
Try reripping one of your older backups to see if you can get through the analyzation. That'll rule out encryption if your pc freezes up while trying to re-rip. It'll also be a shorter/ quicker analyzation as well.
I've never had dvd shrink freeze my pc,but lots of black screens on my backup pc. Dvd shrink a very high cpu program. She'll use 95+% of your processor. That can be a strain on your powersupply and build up heat.
