Yeah, i saw that too. Its seems like u can run a lot of different homebrew apps on your wii now. But what about backups?

The size is still limited to 8meg, so u wont get any backup into that :)
I guess we will have to wait few more month untill someone releases the "backup support", as the creator of the exploit itself, doesnt want to do anything with piracy

this is all through the sd slot correct? i dont know if the speed of usb 2.0 would be fast enough to transfer the game files as if the disc was reading it. even if it was, since i think the wii only spins at like 3-4x, it be pretty expensive or teedious to have a bunch of sd cards with games laying around or have to keep deleteing and reloading them with games.

im afraid that backups might be a long way from now, for softmod/exploit. all the memory options the wii has are too little. theyd have to find a way to utilize either an internal or external harddrive then hack the channels through the zelda exploit and load off of that, becuase i dont think they can alter the way the dvd reads the discs from this exploit. if they could that would be a whole different story though, it would be nice

No, it would be a matter of simply getting a soft mod and another homebrew app to rip the game to an sd without a mod chip. Like the wiikey config disk is supposed to do (cant get the darn thing to work). Then you could rip a game witht the sd card slot, and run a soft mod through it to get the wii to play the backup.

ps. I don't know a lot about this but it sounds like the most logical way.

^^u can do that... just with a chipped wii..

it doesnt matter though, cuz like i said, ud still be carying around tons of sd cards then, and even then, its likely it wouldnt be a fast enough transfer rate to work

I am willing to wait 10 min transfering the files for a new game, instead of pain in the ass from burning DVD's, buying DVD's or even worst, buying an original game for 50 euro.
I also believe that its just a matter of time and that they will come up with backups player

so u dont want to pay 10 bucks for a stack of dvdrs and about 2 min to burn the game

but u wanna pay about 60 bux for a 4 gig sd card for each game or wait however long it takes to transfer 4 gigs back and forth onto sd from usb, everytime you wanna change a game

interesting.

no, you don't understand. Just a piece of homebrew that will let you do basically what you do with a modded wii. use a sd card to rip a game and put it on you computer, then burn a copy of it, and another piece of homebrew to let you play the backup you just made.

Actually I hope they don't make a backup hombrew or anything like that. It will flood the scene with newbies that will really dip into the software companies revenues and the games will begin to seriously suck.

Ha Ha Ha.

The wii is limited to 4 gig's max sd card right now.

Nintendo is not at fault here for this.

The digital signature system that the psp and the wii use is the problem just wait for the 3.3 update by then we should see support for more memory cards and sd cards.

Smith, if you have your backups on a PC and an 8GB SD card then there really is no problem. Sure you have to wait a little while for a game to transfer but at least you will be saving wear and tear on the fragile laser.

I hate loading games from forms of spinning media the require lasers, so I'm all for loading my backups from an SD card.

It was just like the PSP, I refused to buy another one after I had sold my original one until I was sure I could boot from the mem stick because I'll be damned If I get another DRE from a piece of hardware.

im all for loading off of alternative media. once i got a 320 hd in my xbox, the dvd was only used for the initial rip of the game to the hd, so i would never have to swap discs.

the thing is, its not practical right now to play games off of sd cards, as i previously stated, its expensive, takes way more time, and it isnt possible at the moment anyways.

id say the greatest opportunity the zelda hack has, is to use the exploit to get linux running on the wii, and possibly an alternate dash or new channel that would allow playing backups purely based off of the software alterations from the exploit.

BUT

in conjunction with that, you would also need to use the exploit to get into the usb programming, to use the ports for external drives, becuase sd is not practical. nintendo can deny it all it wants.. its going to come out with an external drive.. 512 flash memory just isnt enough. by the time they do, the zelda hack will be at the softmod level, and both of these things will make for a wonderful no chip mod for play and storage of games.

loading off sd though. not practical. cant say it enough. expensive, tedious, time consuming. i understand not wanting to solder a chip onto ur precious wii, and not wanting burned discs, etc, but its going too far out of the way. worst case scenario, i could buy a yoasm chip for near 5 bux, have someone else install it for 20 bux or so, and buy a 50 pack of dvdrs for another 11 bux ($36) and only spend the initial 4-5 min it takes to burn on a 16x burner... vs... paying about 40 bux for one flash card, and having to swap everytime i play a game, which is 5-10 min both to and from the computer, or spend a repetitive 40 bux on sd cards. why wait 20 min to play a game and pay way more when theres a much easier option? its stubborn to force yourself to do somthing else just becuase you dont like soldering or burning discs.

Great, but let me tell you how it works here:

Because i have LEH1356xxxxx the only option for me is to let solder it for 95 euro (driving 2 hours in one way to the guy who does this), buying 5 dvd's for 9 euro (they dont sell 50 for 11 here, and i can not order international), carying buch of DVD's and swapping those for each game.
*bleep* that, ill just wait for chipless hack, buy an sd card, 8gig for 24 euro and thats all i need. Sure i have to wait few min to load the game, but do i really need to play 3 different games on the same day?

how do sd cards cost LESS than writeble dvds there? where are you at man, the wilderness or something? if anything installers should be more prevelant outside of the states, becuase here, its illegal to sell those kind of services for money.

It's not the soldering or burning I dislike. It's wearing out a system's laser, with the end result of DREs, that I dislike.

thats valid, i guess it depends on region though, becuase in the states, pot tweaking or buying a new laser might be cheaper than a bunch of sd cards.. i wasnt aware recordable media was so expensive in other countries.

have that many people been having problems with their lasers though? mine seems to bug out more when it plays the retail version of brawl than anyting
