I am using this tutorial
http://ashholt.googlepages.com/ps2softmod
to softmod my PS2. The way I transfer it over is using Gameshark 2. I have to save the file as .md and rename that to .ps2. After all of that I am able to transfer the save file to the PS2 memory card and that all works fine. The only problem is that my PSX trigger disc won't trigger. It just loads the game. What could I be doing wrong?

Some members have been saying that certain psx games won't work as trigger discs (like quake II). So first thing I would do is try another psx game.
If it still doesn't work I recommend you give the Independence Compiler a try. It will create a .bin/.cue file for you, then you just burn it, and load it on your ps2.

Ok, I found out that when I transfered the file over, it was creating a corrupted file. So to fix this, what I did was:
1. Copy the "Your SystemConfiguration" file to my USB
2. It copies as "Your SystemConfiguration.ps2" Rename it to "Your SystemConfiguration.md"
3. Open it with PS2 Save Builder
4. Add or replace the Boot.ELF and Title.DB files in the save with the
ones you created.
5. Save the file. It should save as "Your SystemConfiguration.md" Rename it to "Your SystemConfiguration.ps2"
Copy that file to your USB. Replace what was there.
6. WITHOUT DELETING the existing "Your SystemConfiguration.ps2" from the memory card, copy the new one over to the PS2 Memory Card. It will ask you to replace the existing file. Say Yes.
7. Load up the Trigger Disc and it should work fine.
I used GameShark 2 v1.3

When I get home I'm trying this out. I was trying to install UlaunchELF this way and get it to launch through DEV1 (using a Duo 3 Ultra). I always deleted the system config file as well, didn't work, so I gave up on it.
I was able to load a patched version of HD loader this way (but I used an installer disc made by someone else).
I'll report back with my results.

Good luck. Also do you know where I can get emulators and other homebrew to run on my PS2?

Yep, I can think of three links right now.
-Link 1-Exploitstation, which has a bunch of homebrew and some emulators.
-Link 2-Which is all emulators
-Link 3-Has a bunch of emulators and homebrew
Edit: Remembered another one here, it is sksapps. It has emulators on it but is mainly a resource for tools/apps/programs.

Nope, when I try to replace the BOOT.ELF file it won't let me because the one that is there already is called \BOOT\BOOT.ELF and windows won't let me use the \ symbol.
If I open the installer image with Isobuster this is what is inside:
-EXPLORER.ELF
-HDLOADER.ELF
-INSTALL.CNF
-SYSTEM.CNF
-ZZZ.ZZZ
Isobuster tells me it was made with CDGENPS2. Think if I replace the HDLOADER.ELF with ULAUNCH.ELF I can get ulaunch to boot instead?

Right now have you actually softmodded your PS2 or not? If you need help softmodding it give me the PS1 game ID and I can create a file for you that you just need to copy to the PS2 memory card. Also what program are you using on the PS2? (Action replay, Gameshark 2, Codebreaker)

I actually have a chip installed in my system. So that is why I am not using a title.db file to boot the .ELF file. I am using the chips DEV1 feature.

I don't know anything about the chips but try using the memory card exploit. If you just want to run HD Loader I bet you can search P2P sites for an ISO of HD Loader.

Well HD loader is no problem as I have an .ELF file of it. I have been successful using the Indepedence Exploit. Just can't seem to get the .ELF of ulaunchELF to boot through DEV1. I'm going to try to replace the hdloader.elf in the installer disc today.
I'll report back with results.
Edit: This is so awesome, after replacing the hdloader.elf file with my ulaunch.elf file (and renaming it to hdloader.elf) it worked through DEV1. Now instead of HD loader loading it is UlaunchELF V4.12
Though it does say 'failed to launch ulaunchelf.cnf upon start up. It does still boot .ELF files through USB though, which is what I wanted.
