Hey there, I just picked up Wii and want to start modding it. I want the best mod chip out there. I don't really want to solder, is there any other method? Is soldering reversible? Where can I buy the best mod chip? Can I play a backed up Brawl online? Thanks.

If you don't want to solder then you can either get a pro shop to do it or buy a modchip pre soldered into a wii-clip. This is a very new product but basically you clip the modchip into place on your drive and it's done. Very few places are starting to sell pre-clipped chips but that will increase I reckon.

Modchip depends really - there are new ones just about to be released but whether they are wii-clip compatible I wouldn't know.

Google - D2CKEY , D2CPRO , ARGON , D2PRO, WASABI, INFECTUS 2 for info.

Well if you have a new wii then its pretty much garenteed that you have a D2C chipset in it, meaning that you need one of the chips that juniR mentioned. D2CKEY , D2CPRO , ARGON , D2PRO, WASABI, INFECTUS 2. Older chips like the wiikey wont work for your console.

And if you dont want to solder then your only choice is the wiiclip, which is currently only compatable with the D2Ckey and the D2CPRO, though their website says they are working on different versions of the clip that will work with ARGON and WASABI. You still have to solder the modchip to the wiiclip, but the after that you can just pop it onto the drive board in the console, no soldering to the wii itself, so its more easily undone.

And backups of brawl work fine online, or at least as well as origionals do. The online support for the game is still somewhat patchy.

Seriously - go search out some info on the chips I mentioned and when you've read up a bit then maybe ask some questions - There is NO definite choice of chip that is the best at this time. Also if you cba to do that then I guarantee you will have problems cos ppl who bypass the education process always get stuck somewhere. Modding is not for ppl who want it easy - those ppl should stick with official Nintendo and guaranteed flawless operation.
