Hi guys,
I have a big problem with my ps2 (v7; thus fat). I attempted to mod it with a Matrix Infinity Green Dot. Everything was going great, until I got 3 of the copper pads off (Joints: T,U,V ; diagram Ps2 v7 diagram; Matrix Infinity. Another problem I had was a part of the GND joint fuse chipped, but I somehow managed to solder onto it. This is not the end to my problems. The RST (reset) plate on the Matrix Infinity mod-chip fell off (due to overheating it >.<), so I had to solder onto the IC leg of the chip. In spite of all of these problems, I managed to solder the wires onto the points and after that, I screwed by ps2 back the way it should be. I turned it on, but I had nor video nor audio. The only thing it did was read from the disc and stop. The fan works, all LEDs work, the cd tray works. I read on different forums that in this case I should use a multimeter to check if all of the fuses "do their job". They did, even the chipped one. The next step was desolder everything and turn the ps2 on without the mod-chip. I turned it on and experienced the same problem: no video no audio.
So can I throw it out the window or is there a solution to this?
Any help would be gladly appreciated, thanks.
P.S. I used a 12-watt Weller Solder Iron (Pencil type), Rosin Core Silver Bearing Solder, flux, 30awg kynar wire for every joint except RST, 3.3v, and GND (24 and 26awg).
Alrighty. Where to start. Well, first, a 15watt soldering gun is perfect for the job. It's the perfect temp gun. So as long as you don't hold it on the solder point more then 3 seconds, it should be fine.
Next time you write one of these, chop it up a bit. It's hard to keep things straight when it's all grouped together like that.
The first problem you had, you did something to the solder points on T,U, and V? You cannot remove these points off the board. The only thing you can do is remove the copper that covers them. They should still be ok.
The next problem you had was "part of the GND joint fused chipped." Not sure exactly what you mean here, can you specify?
After that you said that the RST plate on the Matrix chip fell off? What do you mean fell off? It should be a flat copper plate. I don't think this can just fall off or even burn off.
The ps2 is still worth something to someone. I for example would buy it for parts. So just don't throw it out.
Examine all the points you had soldered a wire to. Go to the bios points and use a multimeter to test continuity between the pins. Make sure everything is cleaned up, you used de-solder flux right?

I tried to get the organic surface protectant (OSP; the gold looking thing on the plate)by rubbing it back and forth with my soldering iron; I got to the silver, but after that, the silver plate got off the motherboard and melted onto the soldering iron

Just like I said- the fuse cracked diagonally (I have no idea how it happened); the thing is, when I checked it with the multimeter, everything was fine.

And again- I heated the copper plate too much and the "glue" holding it onto the mod-chip evaporated and I ended up having the plate on my soldering iron (but I found out that I could solder the wire onto the IC leg; that's what I did)
The thing is- there was no video no audio even when I took the chip out.

Well...if you've cleaned and checked all your points and they look ok, then worst case, you need to grab a new motherboard. Could get one for like 35 on ebay...hell of a lot better then buying a new unit.
I sold my ps2 and got another one (v9). Everything went perfect with the modding. It went smooth and fast (1.5h). KMK, thanks for trying to help me out. Case closed.
