The various variations of MPEG4 are great. But which is most likely to be able to be understood by a copy of Windows Media Player 10 (or 9) on WinXP SP2 that can't update it's codecs?
Yes, I've read MS's list of codecs WinXP and WMP can apparently handle, but I've found it doesn't like some of them, at least as encoded by Super. So any suggestions?

Window Media Player can't update it's codecs??... What do you mean? Of course you can update codecs on Windows XP SP2. Windows Media Player uses direct show, so that means it uses the codecs installed in Windows.
If WMP 10 doesn't like files encoded by Super, then I would suggest that the problem lies with Super not WMP.
Thanks Ryu77 for that information. You are probably right regarding Super. Do you have any suggestions for alternate encoders?
However, I am not encoding for myself. Rather, I am encoding for a large organisation whose user accounts generally do not have sufficient permissions to download codecs. So I need to work with what is pre-installed.
