HDMI Cable only working at 1080i

Hey, I hope someone can help me with my question.

I have recently brought a Xbox 360 Premium with a HDMI port on the back.

I have 2 Screens a Hanspree 37'' HDTV with loads of connections and a HannsG 22'' Monitor with HDMI and VGA port only.

If I plug my original Xbox 360 leads in my Hanspree (redx2,white, blue and green) it runs at 1080p. If I plug in the HDMI cable in any of the 2 TVs then I get an output of 1080i.

I'm guessing it's the HDMI cable, but i thought the cable was supposed to make it 1080p?.

Can anyone tell me if my TV doesn't support 1080p with a HDMI cable or the guy at the Game shop ripped me off!!!
