yes its been asked to death BUT theres NO reason to buy anything else other than Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim they use the best dye, you can read all day on the fourms why to ONLY use this media!
theemon-The Verbatim & taiyo Yuden advice is correct !Those are the two best Brands of media you can Buy ! Verbatim is a Major Brand available at most Retailer be they online or Brick and mortar Stores Like BESTBUY ,CircuitCITY,SAMSCLUB ect... Taiyo Yuden Is Generally available mainly online From Companies like Supermediastore.com, Rima .com or Meritline.com unless you find some Made in Japan FUji's (Rare to nearly extinct ) or some Made in japan Sony's Still occasionally to be found ! Though even That is not a guarantee that they 'll be taiyo Yuden as Sony also gas some of it's media That are made in japan that code out as Sony ! the best way to get Taiyo Yuden media is to order online from a reputable dealer such as those mentioned above. On your question about Memorex ? What's wrong with it is consistency ! and the lack thereof ! Memorex like many of the other DVD media companies Contracts out to other companies to actually make their media for them ! Which in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing as long as the Company making the media is One has a record for making good media ! Like ritek or Ricoh ! as opposed to CMC who was making media for Memorex who had a Inconsistent quality reecord when it comes to Making DVD media !and Memorex has or had a Reputaion for changing which company makes media for them from month to month is not sooner than that ! Which is not what you are looking for ! My personal media choices are Taiyo yuden, Verbatim, Maxell made in Japan , Sony ( Taiwan Made ) and RiteK and Ricoh Made media = Usually bought under the branded names of OfficeDepot & Maxell ! The Officedepot media is either Ritek or Ricoh media codes The Maxell's if they are current can be any of several manufacturers Incuding Ritek and Ricoh ( the two you would want ) Maxell/ Ritek will have a Product Code on the Wrapper with the Letter's MDM ! Maxell/Ricoh media will have a Product Code that has RT as letters on it anything else besides these you would probably want to avoid ? One can Buy Ritek Branded media under it's own name But Officedepot & occasionally The maxell Branded ones are Cheaper as Officedepot Occasionally has a Buy one get One or Buy one get two sale ! But if you just want to get the Best stick with Taiyo yuden or Verbatims with sony's as an alternate good luck theemon

EVERYTHING is wrong with memorex poor dye etc. Its some of the wosrt blank media out there. you can get Verbatim at Best Buys etc. and can buy Taiyo Yuden online at supermediastore.com ,meritline.com , rima.com or newegg.com
The pasting is missing 2 of the Memorex +16x besides CMCmag M01. They also have Ricohjpn-R03-00 and are pretty decent. Then there's the MBIPG-101 which are mediocre. That's 3 different MID codes with the same Memorex +16x so far.
It's also missing the code for MCC memorex, but not sure what the exact MID code was. Those would be some very good memorex.
4 different manufacturers for their older -4x. 3 on their +8x. It's very hard to tell which memorex are the good ones and which ones are the crappy ones.
Don't worry. Memorex is not the only brand name that does this so called "outsourcing". Maxell,TDK,Philips,HP,Fuji,Sony,Store brand name media, and most common brand named media does it. 4-5 different manufacturers for the exact same format and speed rate media.
Problems arrise when switching from a decent manufacturer like the Ricoh memorex to the crappier manufacturer like MBI.
How to tell:Looking for the country that they were manufactured in, that's on the outer shrink wrappers, can help. To some extent,MIJ-Made in Japan is usually the best and can yield Hitachi and Taiyo Yuden. MIT- Made in Taiwan can be excellent like MCC, Decent-Ritek/Ricoh, and it can be lower quality like CMCmag/prodisc. MII- Made in India: Usually MBI and some MCC verbatim. Made in China,Hong kong=avoid like the plague!!!!!.
That's the reason that Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are 2 of the most highly recommended brand names. Verbatim is now made by CMCmag and Prodisc, but is suppose used Mitsubishi's advanced metal azo dye and verbatim's stict quality control.
lol BIGTOXY69 , I just don't get it why people buy inferior media when the good stuff is the same price. and theres NO guess work of what your getting buying Taiyo Yuden online!
