When attempting to re-author a disk I keep getting the following message.

"DVD Shrink cannot retain the menu functionalty when you re-author a menu. Instead, all menu buttons will be removed, and the menu will be converted into a regular video clip."

Is ther a way to compress the move and still retain the menu functionalty? I need to compress the movie down from 4792MG to fit on a single disk. Compression is already down at the minimu of 50.1%

Would appreciate any and all help on this subject.

Try using VobBlanker first to remove everything you don't want like trailers, languages, subtitles etc. Guides on how to do this are on site.

I have read all of the good things about DVD Shrink but I really haven't had any success using it. No matter what I do I still wind up with a copy of the original, uncompressed.

Will give VobBlanker a try. Thanks for the info.

After you process with VobBlanker, then Shrink without re-author.

Ever try Menu Shrink ? Works great - automatic and could not be simpler
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/..._menushrink.cfm
Personally I prefer just movie only - pop in DVD and away the movie plays. Less compression - I reauthor in Shrink to main movie only and then right click on movie file - reset the beginning frame, wiping out all the garbage and reset the ending frame, wiping out all the credits. Usually saves 5% to 8% of any compression. Give it a try. Much easier that all the other stuff

Downloaded VobBlanker and did some minor editing of a video. What I was trying to do is remove the warnings and some other beginning stuff
and the ending credits using the PREVIEW/CUT feature of VobBlanker.

I thought I just had to mark the parts I didn't want but I still wind up with these sections in the video.

Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong or not doing???

I have found that a file no larger that your 4792mb should not need 50% compression to fit on single layer ? Only has to go to about 4400mb - IF I want to keep menu - I use Menu Shrink first - then when open in Shrink - I go to the extras - select custom compression and compress it as low as it will go - that leaves much more room for movie at takes very little time and effort

The 50.1% compression is something that DVD Shrink came up with, nothing that I did. Thanks for the reply.

What I want to do is cut certain sections from a video and I thought I was doing this with the PREVIEW/CUT feature of VobBlanker. I go thru all the motions, process the file but all the parts are till there.

The log showa the items that are skipped, blanked etc but the cut sections manage to work themselves back in.

Going slowly madddddddddddd!

Try DVD Rebuilder. You can take peaces out, or just compress what you have, without loosing anything.

The problem is that I do want to take out pieces.

Can anyone tell me if the PREVIEW/CUT feature of VobBlsnker does not work or am I trying to process the cuts improperly??

Is there a specific guide for VobBlanker to accomplish this one task???

Did you try VobBlanker's help. There is a pretty good explanation of different procedures.

Yes, read all those proceedures but still don't get the results I want. I tried to delete the parts I don't want, that didn't work then I tried to KEEP part part I wanted and that didn't work.

The PREVIEW/CUT screen seems simple enought but not sure which boxes have to be checked in order for this thing to work.

One needs to select the cell box, set the MARK on top on the screen or on the bottom on the screen. Not sure if either works.

Too many boxes to select with no clear explanation as to what each one does or does not do!

Open VobBlanker, click on Help and scroll to Guides. Click there, scroll through the guides.
There is a detailed guide how to use Preview/cut. It works.

Almost there! Followed the steps outlined in the guide. The resultant disk file looked good, just as I wanted, so I burned the file to a dvd using DVD-Cloner V. The dvd would not play on any of my dvd players nor with InterVideo.

HDD file will load and is viewable using VobBlanker.

What exactly did you do with the file using VobBlanker?
I do not know DVD-Cloner, but you can try ImgBurn (reliable).
Also get PgcEdit(free), load your file in and see if there are any red marked commands.

I removed all the superfluous stuff. I just want the movie with the scene selection and special features which I was unable to do with
DVD Shrink.

Will try the other software you mentioned. Thanks!

DVD Shrink in reauthor mode will get rid of all of menus. It is not good for editing.
You can do all that in VobBlanker, just using Blank feature.
This will get rid off all video info and keep everything else intact.

Thanks for the help and the info.

Getting there little by little.

One additional question. What is the purpose of the bottom slide in the PREVIEW/CUT window?

suba - did you ever reauthor to just the movie in shrink and then right click on the movie title > set start/end frames ? I found that pretty easy and quick - saves a lot of space and gets down to the movie.
rmlnm - no idea about the window - could be used if you open a disc with shrink but I have not done that since DVD Fab decrypter came along.

I know Shrink is easy to use, but I do not use it for the reason I mentioned. If you want to pick and choose from what you want in DVD, then there are other software to do that, some you can re author DVD as you please using commands.

rmlnm
The bottom preview has a blue bar which will represent just the cell you are looking at to view. The explanation is in the Guide.

As far as I can tell the upper slid also displays the cell you are working with. I tried using the lower slide along with the left and right brackets but that didn't work then I read in the guide you reccommended and used the upper slide and that allowed me to cut out the parts I didn't want. Now if I can only burn a dvd that will work on my dvd player I will be very happy. If you refer to my first post you will see the problem I encountered trying to use DVD Shrink.

I do appreciate your help. Thank you

Get ImgBurn. The latest version is pretty easy to use.
