Instead of building a box I decided to purchase a Gateway Pc from BB with Vista preinstalled. At around the same time I also purchased a laptop with Vista preinstalled & both were purchased around two months after Vista came out. My first impression of Vista was that it was a nice looking OS just like everybody else but then the problems started shortly after. The PC was for my daughtes so I figure I'd set them up so they don't have to worry about tnything. I have a XP box which I use for myself and everyday they have issues with their pc. If it's not the UAC which I disabled and keeps coming back it's the file transfer & file delete issue which I heard you have to contact Microsoft for. Those issues will hopefully be worked out in SP1 release tomorrow.

My biggest gripe is that I've been burning dvd's for years for myself and I still use my XP box to do all of the work. When I turned to this new operating system I discovered some things. I'm not a cheap guy but 95% of my stuff is freeware so even when I installed the dvd burning software on my Vista pc's I got that famous message "Windows Vista has known compatibilty issues with this software" so I installed it anyway. They worked for a while but I started developing so many problems that I decided not to use my Vista pc's for burning Dvd's. It's not just the dvd software it's more software that won't work with Vista and when I go online to upgrade all the vendors want like $49.99 to upgrade a copy I already have. With XP everything worked.

So like I said I'm not cheap but why make me pay for something I already have with an upgrade that supports Vista? Why can't Vista be backward compatible with software you already have. I know Vista is the future until something else comes along but I'm trying so hard not to downgrade my laptop & pc to XP.

you can try running the software in xp sp2 compatability mode. right click on the exe, and go to properties. go to the compatability tab, an enable compatability mode.

I tried that with Limewire. I downloaded the latest beta drivers at the time and I still couldn't do a search for files.

I've found that if you run a program in compatibility mode for "windows 2000" and set it to run as an adminstrator many programs listed as non compatible work fine... such as nero 6...
