How to burn .avi file to a DVD+R disc?

let me first say is. I know this is the wrong area to post this in of the forums but you people are the professionals.
I got a movie its .avi and its 699mbs.
I'm not shur how to burn it to a DVD because when burning it to a DVD it gets to big and doesn't fit.
I tryed using ProCoder 3 Wizard to make an ISO or a vts file so then i could shrink it using DVD-rebuilder but it always makes two files ment for to different DVDs.\
Can some one tell me a good program that would make it so i can burn an avi file to the DVD disc.
But keep in mine i would like it to be able to work on any DVD players and it would fit on one DVD.
so can you just tell me what program or programs to use and ill try to figure it out my self.

Before you start trying to convert it,you should check whether your Dvd player will play avi files (look for the text "Dvix" or "xvid" written on the dvd player)
If you have this,you dont need to do anything,just burn the file as Data ,either onto a standard Cd disk,or you can use a dvd disk (you can fit as many films on there as it will allow
you can use most burning programs for this.
If you havent got this type of Dvd player,and intend to watch many films using these file types,i recommend you go out and buy one,there cheap as chips.
Personally i think conevrting avi to dvd format is a waste of time,but if you want it to work on any Dvd player,what i have just said is a complete waste of time,and then i guess you have no choice to convert the sucker :)

i used DVD flick and it didn't work in my DVD player.
I have bin Reading your posts i would like to know what type a video file i should convert it to. I would like this DVD to work on any DVD players good one crappy ones i would like to make it so it is an actual DVD.

eh, DVD Flick takes an AVI and converts it to DVD, i've converted many AVI's in this way;
there's a logfile created in Flick's output directory; i'm no expert at reading them but that'll say whether it finished ok or not. Fliename is dvdflick.txt

http://www.cucusoft.com/avi-to-dvd.asp Cucusoft works good but it's a Program you gotta buy ! They do have a free download trial version but It put's it's web address right in the middle of your video image !!! But it does let you see how it works on your system & try it out ! I tried it & i like it !!!

Try playing the dvd on your pc first,or if you have the image still,use that instead
Might be your dvd player dont like the disk type

OK creaky ill try it again but before i do when i go into Project settings how should it be set up
Target Format (PAL OR NTSC OR NTSC-film)?
Encoding profile (best)
Target Bitrate (Auto-fit)?
and in advance what ones should i click? second encoding pass?

I'm UK so i have mine set to PAL.
Encoding profile i have as normal
Target Bitrate i have set to Auto-fit
Second encoding pass i don't have ticked.
However the other guys may have different settings/ideas...

OK its just i wasn't shur if i was suppose to be a different setup
i thought it was suppose to be NTSC not shur what it means.

Use NTSC if you're in the US (i'm UK so i use PAL).
As to the Rebuilder question, No, personally i only use Rebuilder for an original DVD movie/episodic disc, not for a DVD whose source was AVI. That's not to say you can't, i just don't do it. Now Rotary uses various ways to do his AVI's, i'm sure he'll offer an idea or two...
..in fact further up the thread he's posted re using CCE encoder with TFM (The Film Machine); i rarely use TFM so can't comment on whether you get better results throwing CCE at AVI's; i'm guessing there must be a difference if Rotary uses that combo, i'm just happy enough with the output of ConvertXtoDVD myself, if a given AVI isn't of decent enough quality i just throw it away, i don't try better encoders, but that's just me :)
edit- i just re-read one of Hursty's posts up the page, these days it is indeed a bit pointless converting AVI to DVD when divx players etc will play most AVI's, in fact i watch most of mine across the network thru my xbox via XBMC; i just convert mine to DVD for backups, plus i do sometimes watch the dvd's on my dvd player (which isn't the best at playing AVI's)

yup.
Cucusoft AVI to VCD DVD MPEG Creator Pro/ it worked.
thanks allot but do you know the best settings to use in (more advance settings.)
so i can optimize the DVD.

I personaly like Xilisoft, (shareware). You need to convert the avi file to an iso image and then burn it to a disc. There should be no reason for 700mb to take up the whole disc.
After its converted to an iso image it will be under 2 gigs, and with that in mind you can add more than movie file to your disc and save a couple of disc's.
