New DVD-RW not recognized as burner

I have just purchased a Pioneer DVR-115D from Newegg and at first I was having issues of the drivers not being fully installed and/or 'corrupted' according to Windows (Code 39). i did some research on Filters, ended up deleting two files called pfc.sys and ElbyDelay.sys and the burner seems to have properly installed itself. However it now seems to be acting like a read-only drive whenever I insert a DVD (movie DVDs play but blank DVDs are seen as 0 bytes with 0 bytes free). i havent tested it to see if CDs will burn but i did receive the 'Blank CD' options when one was inserted so im assuming thats ok. any ideas on what this could be? id really appreciate the help as i have a few burn jobs to do :/
