Now,i've joined the forums here after spending time reading and not being able to find what i'm looking for specifically. If the info is on these forums, don't crucify me for not seeing it. :)

I have no modchip installed, but will be doing so. My Wii firmware is at 3.1U. What i'm asking is if I should update to 3.2U BEFORE installing my Wiikey,or should I install the Wiikey, update the Wiikey's firmware to 1.9g and THEN update the system to 3.2U? I've been reading tons of websites and information to do this the most informed way I can and this is what my last question is. I don't plan on playing ANY out of region games. So is this step by step ok?

1. Update Wii to 3.2U
2. Put in Wiikey, run GCOS 1.3 update then 1.9g firmware.
3. Put in Smash Brothers and play.

Am I missing anything here or is this ok?

1. Yes
2. Yes - any possible issues with this stage can be solved and are mentioned in the wiikey resources thread.
3. Yes if it's a backup - no if it's original... whether or not you get it to work is another matter but you can read the SSBB thread and discuss any problems there.

It's theoretically possible to go straight thru your step by step without a hitch and be entirely successful but who knows when it comes to actually doing it what will be thrown up?

EDIT - I wouldn't go straight for SSBB tbh. I'd try a single layer backup game before that to ensure the wiikey is fully working. Dual layer seems to be far more difficult for ppl to get sorted and you might end up burning loads of more exepensive media when in fact your install isn't right. SL is easier to get going and I'd go with verbatim dvd-r @ 4x using imgburn. If they don't work then it's likley you have a problem.

Ok,so what you're saying is that in theory this could work properly on the first time through, right? I don't want to play any games out of region (paranoid about bricking),so is it still needed to run the GCOS 1.3 disc?

Also,I only plan to play a backup of Smash Brothers on this system, not the retail version.

EDIT: I have other games as well. Puzzle Quest,Destroy All Humans,Endless Ocean and No More Heroes. I'll give them a shot first and then mess with Smash Brothers just to make sure everything is working correctly. I just updated to 3.2U as well.

I think you might have to run the GCOS disk just to make sure it will take the 1.9g update for the wiikey. It won't allow region override unless you force it to change the setting so no brick ;)

That might be where your hassles start though - sometimes you can't get GCOS to load so you have to run a hacked config disk. But in my opinion, none of that's a real problem. I swapped my settings about when testing some disks and turned region override on and off and everytime I do it the Wii won't read the disk so I just use the hacked one - it's all there in the resources thread like I say so maybe look that over so you're prepared.

Yeah SSBB backup can run - just don't make that your first choice game to try like I said. You need to be sure you can run backups first and that's the ONLY dual layer game at this time. I've never seen as many ppl struggle with any game like this one.
