Is there anyone out there that knows if the software on the HD-A2 has been hacked and if so, who's done it?
I need to know because I want to see about a hack so my player can run a dual format drive.

I just updated the firmware on my Toshiba HD-2A and I really can't tell any difference for it. One thing that has remained the same is that it is still region locked. Could someone send me the link for the hack to unlock the region? TIA.

This is an addendum to my post requesting the region hack...If I can get my HD-2A region free there is only one more feature I need to make this almost my "dream DVD player". That feature may depend more on me learning to do something since I'm sure there is no hack that makes the Tosh into a HD Media Player. Here's what I'm referring to...I have quite a few shows in HD I want to get off my hard drive onto disc where they'll play in HD on my Toshiba. These files are primarily H.264 files in .mkv containers. I've tried so many things to burn them to DVD-R/DL to no avail. The Tosh saids that they are not DVD format when I attempt to play them. So is there a way to take these files and burn them to DVD-R/DL to where they'll look like a HD-DVD to the Toshiba so it will playback? I know this isn't the right place really to post this question, but I hope it is tied in enough that someone will indulge and direct me to, more or less, an "IDIOT'S GUIDE TO TURN H.264 INTO HD-DVDs". That would be appreciated.

What? HD DVD has always been region free...Or are you referring to playing SD DVD's on it?

Ahhh, yea, check videohelp.com every now and then. If there is a hack, it will eventually end up on there.

No, i'm not wanting to play SD DVD's on it, if your referring to Standard DVD, it already does that (i'm not sure about region free though). I want to hack it so I can play HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. I want to install the new LG dual format drive but will need to put the software to play it on the player.

There won't ever be a hack to play blu-ray discs since there is no blue laser in a HD-DVD player (only red laser in HD-DVD players), but perhaps there could be a hack that would allow one to play a disc with blu-ray structure on a conventional DVD.
I doubt this however. So just accept the fact that if you want blu-ray you will have to buy a combo set-top player or two individual players (one HD-DVD and one Blu-Ray).

I don't think you read what I typed.
I don't want to hack a HD-DVD player (drive) to play Blu-Ray, I want to hack my HD-DVD player to allow for me to install a "Dual Format" drive (like the LG GGC-H20L, which plays HD-DVD and Blu-Ray) and play both formats.

mistaken their chief. HD DVD is blue laser. you must be thinking of 3X DVD which uses a red laser.

My bad.
If I can't get a hack to make this thing use the dual format drive, I just might turn the case into an HTPC that looks like a HD-2A lol

Sorry I misunderstood. It would be cool to have the type hack you're referring to.

Here you go dude, no mods necessary. Hope you're somewhat computer/encoding savvy.
HD-DVD to DVD9 playable on Toshiba HD-DVD players.

Odin24,
I really don't mean to be rude but that has nothing to do with what i'm trying to do.
I want to replace the original HD-DVD drive with a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray "DUAL FORMAT DRIVE" and hack the software on the HD-A2 to run that type of drive.
I'm not looking for a means to decode and encode HD-DVD to DVD9, but thanks anyway.
