DTS sound is a no go on a PStwo??

Just bought me a 2nd Playstation 2, a slimline model.
With my old bulky PS2 i can use DTS when i use a dvd movie that supports DTS.
With my new slimline when i put in a DVD movie and select DTS from the DVD menu and play the DVD movie it seems i can't select DTS when i enter the audio menu.
In the audio menu i can select Digital out put "on" or "off", which i turn on of coursse.
Then i can select dolby digital "on" which works but the option to enable DTS can't be selected.
The DTS option is listed there but is greyed out when i want to select it, i can't turn it on!?!
My PStwo clearly has the DTS symbol on the box and on the console but it seems DTS isn't really there???
Can anyone check theirs for DTS sound or has the same problem???
