I bought a used PSP the other day (dont ask me why, stupid move on my part...) and my friend installed 3.71 M33-2 on it. Problem is the up button on the D-pad wont work well, so I have to return it, and I don't know if GameStop would take it back if it had that firmware on it.

That's why I need to get it removed. I've tried looking around but I can't seem to find anything about it. So I'm look for a tutorial or just some info in general on how to do that.

I'm really knew to this site by the way, and thanks for anyone who can help me out.

You'll either need to make what's called a Pandora Battery (look around here or google it to get the idea of what it is/does) to go to official firmware, or try and get ahold of the "1.50 recovery folder" which would downgrade your firmware to 1.50.

EDIT: Guess i should mention that there are many variations to the Pandora Battery, the main ones being refered to as UPMS and Universal Unbricker.

yeah actually im charging my PSP now so I can do the recovery thing. I found one of those. So I can just downgrade to 1.50 and get an official sony update right? Would that work?

If your on 3.71 M33, im sure i read in the stickies that if you run the Network Update it installs the Official Sony Firmware...if so you could just run the network update and it will put the OFW back on for you. You would obviously need a wireless access point for the PSP to that though.
The thread it's in is HERE.

If you dont have wireless access though, personally i would just take it back to the shop...i would have thought it very unlikely they would check the Firmware version on the PSP.

Yea, you could just leave it at 1.50 if you want, it's an official firmware so they can't turn round and say "no".

I suggest you to downgrade to 1.50v.And then they will fix you the button and then you can just downgrade to 3.71m33-4 again.
If you have phat psp then go here to get 1.50v
