I have downloaded srt subtitles for a german-speaking movie (the said subtitles being in english). I have made, several times, various ammendments in the texts of said srt file, since I saw the translations from German into English are inaccurate. Next I used Subtile Workshop to synchronize the subtitles with the movie and made some further ammendments of the texts. Now,if I watch the movie in Subtile Workshop, it seems to be OK.
I have placed the said movie & the said srt into one and the same folder, both files having the same name, except for the extention. To my surprise, whenever I play the said movie with Windows Media Player 11, Media Player Classic or Real Media Player, I see the subtitles overlapped several times.
I should add, that I embedded the said (ammended) subtitles with VirtualDub, made a video disc with the embedded subtitles, and when I play the disc the subtitles are OK.
Can anybody help me to overcome the sai problem ?
Thanks in advance

You must have two applications displaying the subtitles at the same time. Do you have VobSub or FFDShow installed?(you would see them in the right lower corner of your screen when the movie is playing). You need to disable the subtitles in either those applications(just right click VobSub or FFDShow when the movie is playing), or disable them in your player.

Hi cyprusrom and many thanks for your very prompt and helpful response.

I acted as recommended by you; and now it works fine.

By this occasion I am taking the liberty to ask you another question about subtitles. I have noticed, that whenever I burn a video disc or a DVD and then play it on my home dvd player, the subtitles are not large enough, because of the distance between the place I am sitting and my TV. My question is: the proper way to enlarge the subtitles is to do it in the srt file itself or otherwise ?
Thanks in advance

You should be able to adjust the size/colour of the subtitles in VirtualDub most likely, when you embed them.

Hi cyprusrom and thanks again.

And when I don't embedd ?

As you undoubtedly know, when embedding with VirtualDub, at the end of the process one must compress the video file. On the other hand, my own home DVD machine (as most of the recent DVD machines)reads subtitles, even not embedded, if at the burning the avi & srt files where in the same folder. Hence, I prefere not to embedd, unless
I want to lend some video disc to some friends whose DVD machines read only embedded subtitles.

Thanks in advance

Depending on the DVD player. If you don't have an option to change the way the subtitles are displayed( using the remote, from a menu; look in the manual), then not much you can do-not that I know. Some players are capable with a hacked firmware.

If your player supports a different type of subtitles, you could try and convert the srt to a different format and see if makes any difference.

Hi,
I will check the manual of my DVD machine, and if worse comes to worst, I shall apparently have no choice but to make embedding with VirtualDub.

Thanks a lot
