Although I have purchased a file encoder I cannot get any of the avi files on my pc to read on my DVD player. I have converted to MPEG-2, and VOB files however when I insert the DVD into my player it says cannot read Disc. When I put the DVD into my PC it shows the .vob file is on there. Also I put a regular movie DVD in my PC and saw they use .vob but there were two folders TP_ folders for audio and video. Do I have to create this type of folder for my videos to read, or am I just way off base?

Mind telling us what file converter you used? If you used +R media, Can your dvd player play +R media or +/- RW?

Hopefully you did not buy anything besides ConvertxtoDVD. DVD Flick is free and does a great job.

Thanks for the quick response, i bought ImTOO MPEG Encoder 3. I use roxio to actually burn the DVD. And my DVD players are a sony DVD/CD movie player, with a precision 2 drive, and a PS2.

Well, it could be a number of things:

-Your DVD authoring tool(ImToo...) did a bad job( on that DVD you should see not just a set of VOB files, but also IFO, BUP files)
- You did not burn right with Roxio-too, fast, too close to the edge, or wrong type of compilation(maybe you burned a Data DVD instead of a Video DVD)
-Or, you used media that is not compatible with your player, like suggested above.

I found Xilisoft to work better than any other converter, yes even DVD Flick. You want Xilisoft to DVD. It will convert your avi to an iso and then burn with Imgburn or DVD Santa (any one will do).

Give it a try, I did and found better quality all around. The movie played smoother with it not appearing distorted the sound plays completely through where with DVD Flick I got problems of distortion and it seemed to jump in the begining and when ever the frames would fade to black.

I wish I could second that opinion about DVD Flick, but I can't. Never had an issue, no audio sync problems, distortion or whatsoever...Excellent quality. You might have used an unstable version.

If I'd pay money for something, would be ConvertxToDVD. Not saying that Xilisoft's converter is not good, as I never tried it.

same here, i've had great results with the current version and the latest Beta version; i've used Flick a fair bit without issue..

yep! same here...although i must admit that for a faster conversion i use ConvertxtoDVD for most off mine and always use the onboard burn engine. i've found a few that DVD Flick would convert that ConvertxtoDVD couldn't.

I am tired of converting...slow PC:~)!, going bald and getting bored. I've been spending hours reading about XBOX and XBMC, seems like the way to go. Howver, my brain is twisted already-mod this, softmod that, swap the other, solder the other one...Never touched an XBOX in my life, it should be a fun project!

As for our converters- I don't use ConverxtoDVD. Does it have the option to make use multiple core?

What versions of DVD FLick are the both of you useing? I'm at work and don't know what version I had and it doesn't help that I uninstalled it either.

I did the 2nd encoding pass and converted at "best" and had no luck with the quality.

Any suggestions? I'll try it again, but for some odd reason it gave me really horrable quality and thus I changed to Xilisoft.

Hi yourself young man, hope all is well; same here, ConvertXtoDVD is faster than Flick; don't forget though, i frequently run Flick alongside ConvertXtoDVD and DVD Rebuilder, you've gotta love Quad Cores

until a few months ago i didn't know an Xbox from an ex-parrot :) it's really quite easy, softmodding is anyway, no hardware chips needed, just a bit of software, a bit of work and major movie watching fun to be had; in fact we're watching an AVI via XBMC across the network now, earlier on we were watching a movie via XBMC using the actual VIDEO_TS folder; easy peasy :)
At the least, you take a bog-standard xbox and softmod it (no hardware changes needed) and you have a fully-functioning media centre that can play anything except hi-def (insufficient grunt)
Next step up is to swapout the standard 8GB hard drive for anything up to a terabyte; that's as far as i went (using a 500GB drive) but you can use modchips and whatnot - i personally never saw the point in modchips but each to their own.
While we're on tbhe subject here's how i did it (looks much harder than it is, i only put so much detail in there due to my goldfish memory) - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/557450/3558187

Nope, v2 doesn't, i don't think v3 does either..

The latest Beta version is 1.3.0.0 Beta Build 592 found here - http://www.dvdflick.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=534 and
the latest 'normal' version is still 1.2.2.1, updated 13th September 2007 - http://www.dvdflick.net/download.php

here is the build 602. All you do is download the zip file and extract the executable and replace the old version in your DVD Flick folder:

http://members.home.nl/meuwissenth/dvdflick_exe.zip

http://www.dvdflick.net/forums/viewtopic...db9de&start=270

As for the XBOX, I am still waiting for my ebay bid to end, then if I have any questions(and I do have:~), like do I really need a HDD that can be locked if I will not be playing any games whatsoever, any capacity HDD using any softmod?...( was reading some posts and the guy was having trouble, the XMBC couldn't see the HDD past 137GB, and so on...)!)
Probably start my own thread.

DVD Flick has the option to use multiple thread processing. Is it still slower than Cvtx2DVD when set up to use 2-3 or 4?

No worries re the xbox, drop me a PM if you need any help, i'm no expert but i'm no longer an xbox noob :P
Cheers for the updated exe, though i haven't experienced any problems with Flick personally; and i thought it couldn't multi-thread, though i've done virtually no reading up on it, i just start it up and press Go.

Don't have a super X-core PC myself, I'd call mine a 1/2 core:~), but I was just curious if it makes a noticeable difference...

Gurnard - hehe; ..and talking of memory....
cyprusrom - just checked, mine was set to 4. Being of goldfish memory i can't remember if Flick set that for me or if i did it, though i have a feeling i must've set it after reading a post (somewhere, anywhere). Can't say i've noticed if it's any quicker than back when it was set to 1.
