Does anyone know why my dvd output is green on ps3?

Its fine when playing a game or on the XMB, but when I go to watch a dvd or switch to linux it has a green picture. Im not too bothered about linux as ive gave up on that, but I am about watching DVDs.
My tv is not HD and im using a gold scart lead, bought this so my tv could output NTSC when playing US PS2 games. Oh yeah on the back of the scart lead, the end that goes into the PS3, it has a switch that says GAME or DVD, when I switch it to DVD the green goes but the picture quality is terrible, very buzzy and blurry.
Any way around this? Thanks.
