As far as I know, none of the PALPS3 games comes with a 60 Hz selector, they all output at 50 Hz, right? But, when connected through HDMI, they will automatically play at 60 Hz, is this true?
Also, as the PS3 is region free for all PS3 games, does this mean you can play NTSC games online on PAL territories, and vice-versa? Or is the online play still limited to local servers?

Thanks in advance.
As for 60HZ part - it doesn't matter really. It is better to play 60 HZ as it tend to provide better picture or a bit faster game speed ( or both - I can't remember too clearly).
As for online part. Sorry, PS3's online network are limited to local servers only. It means you can't play NTSC game online on PAL PS3, and vice versa.

Yes, I know that, and that's exactly my point. What I want to know is if it's true that you can play PAL games (50 Hz, no mode selector) at 60 Hz simply by connecting the PS3 through HDMI.
Because I don' have one yet. But this information will help me decide which console, and games to get, the PAL or the NTSC ones, as I obviously prefer an output at 60 Hz. I read that none of the PAL games so far come with a NTSC mode selector, therefore they all run at 50 Hz. However I also read that, when connected through HDMI the PS3 will automatically output all PAL 50 Hz games at 60 Hz. Can someone confirm this?

Ah - I understand the situation better now. I thought you already got PS3 :) but that is not the case.
I recall that some PS3 games does offer you option to play in 50hz or 60hz before starting the game.
I am not sure if you can also configure your PS3 (at XMB board) to go to 50hz or 60hz.
As for me - I remembered that I was asked to select 50hz or 60hz for my PAL and SECAM games on my chinese PS3 via HDMI cable to my HDTV last year (Asia operates 60hz i think). I just don't remember if that is in game option, or in XMB.
