Don't bother with antispyware (they always slowdown your system and usually won't remove all your spyware).
Instead what I use whenever I surf the internet is "returnil", it locksdown your windows system files from the internet. Everything on the screen looks normal/works normal/no slowdown but if you download a virus or spyware it only lives in system memory, any damage it does will only occur in system memory. When you reboot all traces of spyware/virus are gone. Whatever happens when you have "returnil" engaged is gone when you reboot. This program when engaged will defeat all known/unknown virus/antispyware. I have it installed on 4 computers and it's been rock-solid on all of them. It's a free program that works extremely well.

Returnil has more uses besides surfing on the internet.
I also use it to test out new programs (as long as the program doesn't require a reboot to install). You install the program you want to test, and run it, when you reboot the computer the program/registry entries is completely gone.
The program is easy to use, you boot up your computer, do what you need to do, download the latest virus definitions etc. Returnil is in standby when the computer boots up, once you decide you need more protection, you turn returnil on. The computer will go into full protection instantly, your c: system partition is now protected. You can delete icons on your desktop, delete system files, edit the registry, install programs etc. Any changes you do only happen in system memory (nothing is saved to the c: drive). To turn off returnil, you need to reboot.
Any files you download from the internet, you need to save them on another partition/hard drive/external drive etc. If you only have one partition, during installation Returnil will allow you to make a virtual drive so you can save files to this virtual drive that will survive the reboot.
I can play videos games, listen to mp3's, burn dvd's while returnil is engaged and it doesn't affect the usabability of the computer. the only important thing to remember is that anything that happens while you have Returnil engaged, dissappears when you reboot. So you must always save any important files before shutting down your computer.
The best part is, you only turn it on when you need to. It's not a program that is always bothering you to update it. It just sits on the taskbar waiting for you to turn it on. It's been very reliable for me, and hasn't crashed any of the computers I installed it on.
The wilderssecurity forums have more info on this program from actual users who have tested the program.
