well been workin on this one for a few days now,... have d2b cut legs, dremel the chip, connect all wires and i seem to be having the same sorta problem as most of the others round here. I cant get it to ready any discs, a few times i got it to come up as the gamecube logo, and 1 time even the wiikey screen... but when i went to change the disc from the hexed 1.2, next media was unreadable....I'm now working with Verbatim -R, still no luck. I've also tried maxwell dvd-r, HP, Sony, Staples Offbrand, etc. Ive tried the hexed, padded, non padded etc... using a 15w solkder iron and everything....im hoping someone has found a resolution to this. I have been reading people with the sames experience on here and other boards for the past few days. So a few questions....my system is 3.1U, it was like this before i attempted the chip install, what should i be trying to get this resolved???ive got every file related to the wiikey on prolly 3-4 diff types of media. Is there anything further I can do as far as moddifying an iso to get it to load easier or ? pot adjustment? Im open to any suggestion.....

2 possibilities.

1. The wiikey isn't fitted properly and there is a problem with one or more joints.
2. The problem is your disks. Verbatim DVD-R burned with imgburn @4x should be fine. If you are not burning this way then try that. There is also a hacked config disk which you might want to try and that is in this thread.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/597460

Sometimes when region override isn't on the Wii can't read any firmware/config disks until the hacked config is used to turn region override on.

Also that thread is the one ppl are encouraged to use to discuss wiikey issues. New threads are usually closed.

yeah, using imgburn/verbatims atm, 4x or 2x, is it possible the key got damaged during the install? whats the probability of that? I can solder fairly well, i was an avianics electrons technician in the military, but its been awhile lol...any good tips for when solddering to the cutaway on the d2b chip? thought i read someone lifting the traces or something intentionally to get a better joint. And what disc should i be trying to load 1st? 1.2config/1.3/1.4 or updates?, this is a 3.1U North American machine..and should i ONLY be trying the GCOS verswion? Thanks again for the help guys....

If the chip gets any excess heat at all it can damage 100% of the time. remember you should have soder on the wire and be heating the wire to run the soder on to the chip. never touch the chip with the iron. can you post a pic of your job? It may be helpful to diagnose the prob

I had the same problem, sometimes it showed up a gc disc for the congig disc, no backups ran, orignals didn't work. Got myself a new chip everything was fixed. Dunno if i fried the old one, i did a bad soldier job, or if it was doa. it was before the site i bought it from tested them. new one in, everything worked perfect first time.
