Just want to say that I probably (well sometimes I think I do) take the words of Noob and Novice to a new realm.......however with the help of afterdawn I have learnt over three years how to backup/transcode avi files then i moved on to bin/cue to vcd files......then the man came home and wanted the psp to work (had been in drawer for 2 years with no use)...I have to say i got that one wrong cause the first thing i did was upgrade the firmware.......what a plonker!!....anyway the next he comes home with nintendo.........got how to flash it all off afterdawn and don't believe i have had to post before because I really do try and read..(honest)..........so very, very grateful, however, he now comes home with news on the PS2 that has been up the loft for ermmm not sure how long........you can make it wireless and download however I have spent the last 6 hours trawling through and I know I usually trawl for about 48 hours but....just this once .....could someone please tell me .......:-

firstly: what can i get out of the PS2....(i.e firmware, homebrew, modchip)...in english if poss and in old peoples terms cause it takes me a while to catch up with you young people

secondly: do i need the above to play backed up games..(have got a few honest)

thirdly:....(she says shamefacedly) didn't have a clue that I could play the PS2 wirelessy (am probably talking about the controllers more than online gaming)..........is it just a case of buying them complete with the relevant adapter to get them to work

fourth (ly):- people keep waffling (sadly not to me but to him - so have no idea!!) about hard drive for PS2 and being able to download??

Any ideas/help/therapy probably at this point would be most appreciated........sorry for taking up lots of space and if I have unknowingly gone against forum rules etc then I truly apologise and please delete.......it just seems that I am about 2 or 3 years out of date on this one and cant find the relevant answer........btw....have read through all the guides as per usual but this time couldn't easily find the answers.

Anyway even if I dont get any replies I would just like to say that I am eternally grateful to afterdawn who I come back to and recommend every time I or someone else needs help...........thanks to all.

Hi and welcome. Nice to see someone who reads and has learned a lot.
I will try to help you out here.
Well firstly depending upon what version PS2 you have you can do a lot with it.
Version check.

This guide here is pretty good to get you started as it has them numbered. It will explain what all can be done with the PS2.

Yes on PS2 V1-13 you can have an IDE hdd. You need a network Adapter for the V1-11, V12-V13 need hdconnect.
How to copy games to hdd and connect hdd to PC to transfer them.

Yes there are wireless controllers for the PS2 now. Headsets, mic etc.

Read Faq #4 of the above if interested in wireless networking.

That should all help you out and you can post back if you need more help or just want something answered.

Thats a good route to go.
You can pick up a PS2 network adapter from ebay usually for pretty good price, just browse through them.
