DV-38A mods for PAL and region free

I own a dv-38a and am not sure if it will play pal and other regions (i'm sure it won't). Does anyone have info on how to modify? I think it is basically the same unit as a DV-37. Can I just change a chip? If so, where to buy? Please help. I have seen some info on ICOS 724 and I-MOD but I don't know where to buy. Or maybe I could even use a software update?
