I am having problems with my controller. When playing games the left joystick dose not work all the time. I can move the joystick all the way down and in the game it will move down a little then stop move a little more then stop. My PS3 and controller are only 3 months old. Also the L3 button only works half the time. I thought it might be the signal so I connected my USB cable and still had the problem. I think the controller should last longer than 3 months. I don't want to be paying $50 every 3 months for a new controller. My old PS2 controller lasted 3 years before one of the joysticks broke and it still worked. It just wouldn't recenter. Are other people having this problem or know of something that may be wrong with the controller that I can fix.
maybe try phoning sony and complain about the controller breaking after 3 months, if your lucky they could give you a new one if not then just buy a new one and hope it lasts longer than the other one
Well What I plan to do this weekend is replace the analog portion of the PS3 controller with the analog stick from a PS2 controller. I will get on that this evening as I just purchased a soldering gun. I will be sure to post a guide if I pull this off. I had to buy a new controller simply because I dropped one in water. THe controller still worked after it dried up, but that left analog stick always seems as if it was being moved in the down direction eeven though its positioned in the nutral position, and jsut stays there. cant really use it at all. I have another controller that came with my ps3 when I purchased it in feb'07. it still works but the left analog stick has lost its stiffness. I press the controller in the down direction and it statys there. you actually have to manually move the stick to the middle for it to stay nuetral. If I pull it off with this other controller, then I will take the right analog stick from the donating ps2 controller and switch that one out. After that Im hoping to have three decently working controllers. I spent $16 to buy my soldering equipment. Beats dishing aout another $50 and have worthless controllers laying around
Ok on Thursday the left joystick quit all together. No matter what I do it won?t work. So I contacted Sony but have not heard anything back. I won?t give up. I?ll keep complaining until I get something out of them. So after work Friday I went and bought a new Dualshock3 Controller, its work great for now. I was talking to one of my buddies and he said that he was on his fourth controller in the last nine months. He?s had the same problems, joystick stopped working, going in the wrong direction, or just won?t recenter.

If you get that working I think it will be a real big help and money saver to people that can get there hands on old PS2 controllers for like $5.

True, but my old PS2 controller lasted two years before giving trouble. If it?s not too hard to do a swap on the joysticks. I would rather spend $5 to $10 and a little time to have a controller that last two years. Then go out and spend $50 on a controller that is only going to last me 3 or 4 months.
This should be good news for you then, upon inspecting my DS3 I realized that Sony has switched back to using the same analog sticks as in the DS2. Groovy.
