XBC, Mulleter, Schtrom,... they'll all give you the region code.
One thing though. It's believed (but not proven) that the dmi or pfi from a disc may help MS flag people who may be using backups.
By that I mean the different regions have different security info. So say you download a region free game which was ripped in a PAL region, and you're in the US and play it on your console. If you're connected to LIVE, MS may see that you're using a disc from another region.
Now yes, obviously it could be a legetimate disc ordered from overseas, and they can't ban you on that information only. But is does set off a flag.
And if you keep setting off flags, MS will eventually ban your console. All this bad info doesn't have to be related to one backup. You can a bad timing angle on one disc, another may have a conflicting dmi vs pfi, etc, etc. Those flags add up.
That's why you should always make your own backups.
