Hello there, hope you can help. I need step by step instructions please. I want to put movies onto my external hard drive, I have a laptop with vista, dvd shrink, and dvd decrypter. I used dvd shrink and it encoded the movie, but then I don't know what to do with it. Can someone just start at step 1 and walk me through this please. I do not want to burn to a disk, which is what I see most instructions for. Thank you

Use shrink to back up disc and output as a hard disc file. You can use something as Power DVD to open and play the hard disc file on your external hdd. Got it?

I may have it. I will back up in DVD shrink as an ISO file to my external hard drive right? Then I need power dvd to play it? What do I have DVD decrypter for? Someone was trying to get me to play it through decrypter I think.

Not ISO, but as a hard disc folder.DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 was better than shrink as a decrypter, but both are unsupported now.
BTW I just like power dvd a a pc player program( pay for ) but there are freebies out there.

Was the person correct that it can play through dvd decrypter? Just wondering. Thank you for this help by the way. What freebie players can I use?

DVD shrink can play the movie, but I can only get it to play in that little window, it won't go to full screen for some reason. I will try the free download you sent me. Thank you

I guess I am still doing something wrong. I downloaded VLC just fine. When I go in the external hard drive there is the name of the movie which I click, then VIDEO_TS and if I click that a lot of stuff opens up. I don't get it

On external HDD, right click the file (movie) , then click play with VLC player (left click)

That is another problem, that isn't even an option. I have been wanting to do that. When I right click my options are
Explore
Open
search
share
send to
cut and copy
create shortcut
delete
rename
properties
I think I am hopeless here. HA HA. Remember this is in Vista also

When you find your file, right click, opens the above window. Slide curser to open and a new sub window opens and you see VLC player. Slide over to VLC and left click and watch movie.

I do not get new sub windows when I slide my cursor over. The only one that does that is "send to" and that sends it to other drives.

I don't understand what you mean. On my desktops with XP I am well aware of "open with". If I hit open now it opens up the TS file to tons of other files. I can't send it to the player.

Alternate method
1) open VLC player ( click icon)
2) uppper left -file- click
3) new window - see open - browse for file
4) find file and click and open ( if you see a bunch of files as VTS, vob 1....., drag and highlight then\m all, then hit open, the OK
5) player auto starts ( hit video - new sub window and see full screen, click)

There you go! It worked, but that is kind of odd to have to do that isn't it? I had to highlight one, hit shift to highlight all of them, and then let it play. I will try another movie tomorrow since this one took forever. Maybe I will find some easier ways. Vista is so difficult. Thank you again, you are my hero
