Ok, I've searched the wii console threads and cant find answere here or elsewhere on net.

I don't want to do updates to my wiikey if I can't dump to my sd card for dual layer games. Does dumping work after updating to later wiikey firmware? It seems the majority of threads are suportive to the pc-dvd drive method and that doesn't suit me right now.

I choose not to backup the pc-dvd drive way at this point. The games available that I'm having problems backing aren't worth the reward for now.

Dumping a dual layer game to an SD card with a wiikey can be done without updating if your wiikey has a switch. Just run the disk, get to the screen where it asks you to swap to the disk you want to dump, then turn off the wiikey. However, even doing this you'll only get the first layer of the game.

I dont know if the new 1.9s firmware fixed the problem with dumping the second layer, but they did fix it so you dont need a switch. So updating the wiikey should allow you to get the first layer of brawl, but only vs mode and online will be play. SSE, classic mode, all star mode, boss mode, probably some other things as well wont work with the single layer dump.

Thanks for the info. It inspired me to update and all went well. My wiikey never saw 1.9b or g. I went staight to 1.9s and all seems to work so far. SMG and SSBB dumped and boot well. As far as the switch goes, I didn't need that having 1.9s so I'll confirm it works for now. I suppose I need to dive further into the games but they sure boot well. I thought this would be much harder to do being Dual Layer... it's tranparent on my end (are these 2 games really DL?)... dumps and burns like any other and the size is the same. Alot of chatter about other backups not working properly or at all after updating led me to thinking its not worth updating. I'm glad I waited though because I can't get a good nights sleep when my Wii isn't functioning at peak level. A real mod is supposed to gain performance not hinder it. Wiikey is golden after 1.9s.

update..On SSBB I played on training mode so maybe 1.9 does help dump both layers from what you said previously.

If the Size for SSBB is the same, You didn't get the dual layer and the Subspace adventure mode won't work unless you modify the fst.bin to relink the videos to ones that are on the first layer. As for SMG, that game isn't a dual layer. The only difference is that it was the first game to my knowledge to have the drive check that throws the 001 unauthorized device error.

You could try Soft-Dev's DVD backup Utility opposed to the one provided on the Wiikey config disk. I'm not sure if they have got DL working yet with their laster version either though. DL iso's should be 8,511,160,320 bytes.

Thanks for the enlightnement Duo. The next time I'll be doing backups is after Mario Kart comes out so I'll chime in after that and I will certainly want to get this straightend out asap if Mario Kart is D.L.
I've been meaning to try Soft Dev's backup utility to check out differences.

So does anyone know for sure if any of the SD dumping programs will dump a full DL disc?

Soft-Dev's DVD backup Utility might, I dont know anyone who's tried it. But none of the other methods currently work for backing up both layers at once. I beleive theres one that can dump the layers seperately and then they need to be combined, but I dont know which one.

Daimao, You must be talking about dumping a disk from a pc. I'm set up and invested on dumping from a wii console. Looking for verification on code that will support DL.
