I am trying to take a DVD and copy some movie clips off of it. How do I do that and what software do I need? This is needed as soon as possible. It is an emergency that I get this done.

Thanks for all your help.

any answers to this? I'm wondering the same thing... I need to extract a clip from a dvd. DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter are what I'm guessing I should use. But some additional directions on how to rip only a clip would be appreciated. Would I need to rip a whole chapter and then edit the ripped file to only include the scene I want?

More details would be great!

Take some time to browse the Guides here:

http://www.doom9.org

There are just to many answers possible on your question...

I think DVDshrink could do just fine for you because it's rather intuitive and there lots of good guides on this program to find on the net...

Also you won't have many financiel risks with that program ;-)

Got the clip ripped, thanks for the redirect to the guides. Any advice on how to then convert that into an AVI file for import into video editing software (premiere, ulead, etc...) Thanks!

No more hits on this...

I've tried using DVD2AVI, ended up with an AVI with no audio and a bunch of separate audio files.

I'm getting either choppy video or really really poor quality video. Any advice on settings to use in DVD2AVI for good results?

I'm assuming I can use TMPGEnc to combine the separate audio and AVI files, but haven't attempted that yet.

Well, I think you did allright using DVD2AVI. Getting seperate video and audio is just what you must expect. However, using DVD2AVI is best used with Avisynth, which is a program that uses scriptfiles, and is a bit difficult to understand at first (you see no .exe or that kind of programfiles, but you have to use scriptfiles... DVD2AVI forms a .d2v file which is a <i>project</i> file, the .AVI which you see at first is a socalled pseudo-AVI. With avisynth you can process these .d2v files. The best solution regarding the seperate audio and AVI (.wav and .avi) is importing them both seperate to yor application e.a Premiere (or, like I did, Pinnacle's Edition). Notice the delay which is written in the filename of the audio: these msec's value's you can use to synchronise the audio and video on the timeline, for example by putting some empty frames either in front (if the delay is positive) or on the back (if the delay is negative) of your videoclip (with 25 frames per second, one frame is about 40 msec). Read this guide:

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/videogetb.html

over and over, print it for example. There's more on DVD and Premiere on that site.....

Stay on to it and don't despair if you don't get it, just start again another day and you will succeed (I did).

Succes!
