I recently acquired a modded ps2, and it doesn't seem to read psx/dvd's, but will play normal ps2 games fine. I don't know what mod-chip it is using, but I do know the model number, which is SCPH-39001. When I insert the disc, it does not load, and goes straight to the main ps2 screen. When I go into the browser screen, it just says the disc is a playstation 2 disc.

Okay, it looks like I have a magic 3, and I figured out how to use psx/dvd games. I tried with a dvd, and it worked fine, but when i used the backup of my old ff7 disc, it still didn't work. I tried it out in epsxe, and it worked fine. the psx game is on a cd-r, and the ps2 makes a weird sound when it is put in.
