I've got a Helios H2000 dvd player, and am attempting to watch avi files on it with .srt subtitles. I burn the avi's and subtitles files on the dvd, the video plays, and the subtitles show up, but they have no border around the white letters (so its almsot impossible to read them from a distance) and its a rather unattractive font. The subtitles have a nice font and border when played on the computer though.

How can I make the subtitles appear correctly on a dvd?

If this the situation where you burn the AVI and the .srt file to the same disk, then the display and font are a function of the firmware in the standalone player - and there's nothing I know of will change it.

The alternatives are to burn permanent subtitles onto the video using VirtualDub or use one of the many programs that simply add the subs as a new stream.The subs then can be turned on and off with the remote.

These programs often rewrite the file with a .divx extension.Some players won't accept this so you should change the name of the new file to .avi - and note that these programs are not recoding the video so there is no loss of quality.

Here's a link to one program.All you have to do is put the avi and .srt files (same name of course) into a folder, run the program and drag the avi onto the window.
