I'm looking to edit DVD's that have been burned from a video camera or original dvd. I have looked around and found software called Pinnacle Studio 11. Before I install this I wanted to get some opinions and advice. Would you recommend this software or would you suggest something better. I'm not looking for anything to professional and complicated to use. My second question was how to burn to a new dvd once you edit the movie. Would the program generally need to associate with something like Nero and work together? Or does it save it separately on your PC to burn at a later time.

I have a similar question as well. I had my 8mm tape made into a DVD. It is one big .vob file. I'd like to separate the clips and be able to save them by themselves. (I burn pics and clips onto one DVD for each year for storage)
I tried converting the vob to mpg. Then mpg to wmv so I could use Windows Movie Maker (a piece of crap software). It worked but the quality of the clip was so degraded it wasn't worth the effort.
Is there a (preferrably free) software that will let me edit in the vob or mpg form?

The only program that I use to edit DVD's is videoredo plus. It'll edit the vob's directly. It's a frame accurate editer, and it doesn't reencode the edited file. The finished saved file looks as good as the original (no quality loss).

I've actually used the videoredo demo to edit an entire 2 hour store bought dvd movie (removed r-rated scenes). The finished video stayed in audiosync and the quality looked as good as the original. The demo lets you save a max of 30 minutes per file(each vob is less than 30 minutes). The program also edits mpeg1 and mpeg2 files.

One of the best features is that it's quick. It takes less than 5 minutes to save an edited vob. My advice is to stay away from pinnacle, it is very crash proned. Also pinnacle will reencode at realtime (ussually it will take 1 minute for every 1 minute of video) a 2 hour video will take about 2 hours to save (that's if the program doesn't crash).

The other program that also edits vob's without reencoding is womble mpeg dvd wizard, this program has more features including dual audio tracks/ transitions/titles etc. Videoredo is more of a pure editer.

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded videoreplus and signed up for the trial version. It did everything I needed and so easy to use!

Thanks for getting one huge project taken care of for me:)

Firstly, I apologise if I've posted in the wrong place. . . .??

I also have questions about dvd editing. I went looking a year ago for a dvd camcorder but the guy in the shop said that the dvd's could not be edited, which was pretty useless for what I needed to do...A year on, I see software such as Easy Media Creator Suite by Roxio.

Basically, I'd like to know the following if possible please;
-If I buy a dvd camcorder, would the software you mention be the best if all I want to do is edit very short films? Or should I purchase something like the easy media creator mentioned above?

-Also would you know if my laptop is compatable- it's a sony vaio that dvd's work on & does the software you mention allow you to burn the videos to dvd's?!

Any help at all would be appreciated!

Thanks!
