I'm using CloneDVD2 on a Dell Vostro Notebook, Core2Duo 2.0Ghz, GeForce 8400M GS, 2GB Ram, Pioneer DVD+-RW DR-k17y to read media and an external Sony DRX-840U to burn media. The 360 is hooked up with Component cables. The DVD player is a Toshiba using an HDMI cable. The player is about 2.5 to 3 years old don't have the model off hand, sorry.

I used to think that my rig was at fault. Every backup started to stutter about 1/3 of the way through when played. Then, out of the blue my girlfriend played a backup that I stuttered in the Toshiba in my Xbox 360, and it played flawlessly!

I want to say the HDMI might have something to do with it, or maybe the fact that it's an upconverting DVD player.

I burn 16x media at 8x just to be sure. I've even tried playing disks on an older Sony DVD progressive scan player. Still I get stuttering on everything but the Xbox 360. Any ideas, or help? Maybe suggest a good player. (this is actually something i just thought of, and will do a search to see what the forum recomends)

Thanks.

Ok, Ok...I searched under "backup stutter", and found exactly what I think I need.

My media is ok i think, Verbatim.
It seems like even 8x is too fast to burn a movie.
I am using adhesive DVD labels.
I'm using CloneDVD2, so I'll have to see how to reduce the output to 4200, OR, since I have Nero and AnyDVD, I can download DVDshrink.

If all this works, then it would mean that many DVD players are pretty finiky about the disks you place in them. And since the Xbox 360 played every disk I've previously burned without a hitch, that must mean the 360 is a fine machine for reading burned media.

and thus is your problem. when you use ADHESIVE labels on your DVDs you make the DVD unbalanced. Even though you use good media you now made it poor because your DVD player is having a hard time reading your media because of it being unbalanced with your labels on your DVD! Ditch the Adhesive labeling and increase your players ability to read your burned media!
