PSP - Do i really need a screen guard?

I am getting a PSP soon and was wondering if i would need a screen guard. Does the screen mess up alot? Should i get a case for the psp if im going to be carrying it around in my jeans pocket?

I use the soft pouch. The best investment is a cell phone strap to wrap around wrist as the crappy one that comes with the PSP sucks. Screen protectors are good and applied correctly last a lond time. I don't use one but i use a liquid compound.
