cd drive can't read (several year old) burned data

i have a problem with my cd drive not reading previously burned data on the cd-r. it will read some cds but not others. when i put cd into an older pc, it reads the data. in some instances, the cd drive reads a 1 kb music file as the only file on the cd. mark
