Hi All,

At work now and the only thing I haven't tried is to remove any dvd buringing software (xcopy express, dvd clone, and so on) of which I have 2 or three. So maybe that will work. But I have tried buring too many times after using Shrink I drag the files and Nero "sorts" the files but when it gets to "checking disc" it locks up. At first I thought it was Nero vs Drive (BTC DRW1004) but that's not it. Tried Roxio that came with the drive, that's a piece of work which I instantly removed and reinstalled Nero (latest version as of last night). The disc is the right size, the file will fit, what else could it be? I used dvdxpress and another prog (forget which one) but xpress only uses DVD/RW which wont read on my standalone and the other prob left the macro on there, I think since my pc picks it up. I also just bought Toshiba standalone which reads DVD-R which I am using, memorex 4x.

Win98SE
AN11 Motherboard with 512 DDR, Athlon 1700+, Primary HD is Maxtor 80G 7200 8MB. The BTC is Primary on another IDE channel.

Any ideas?

Thanks...........

Are you putting the files from VIDEO_TS into the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero?

Are you using the DVD section of Nero??

hi samantha. thanks for the input. yes I'm using the dvd section of Nero and dropping all files into the video_ts file and leaving the audio_ts file there empty. i'd like to use Nero since that has been my burning software of choice for cd-r but if i have to un-install all this other stuff first, might not be worth it. any other ideas?

And your using Nero 6 Burning Rom??

I know when I drag my files to the video_ts folder it doesn't scan the files 1st. It only does that when your burning CDR's

thanks again Samantha. you're right about Nero "scanning" music as you drop them into a cd layout. I'm referring to "sorting" when the burn process starts.

one thing i thought of this am is this, using decrypter, it doesn't appear it automatically makes the files region free until done manually. could the region code (tho i believe it's a region 1 movie and my drive is locked on region 1)make the drive lock up?

Nero has a tool, Registry Checker and DriverCleaner for checking your registry and drivers:

thanks to samantha and fasfrank for the ideas. i tried them all. none worked, but it's fixed. in case you're interested, here's what happened:

I've got 4 hd's and 4roms using 4 ide channels. apparently to burn video the burner has to be on a "primary" (primary or secondary) ide channel. I had it hooked up to the alternate (used for RAID, but not using RAID)channel. Everything worked fine for reading audio cd's, burning audio cd's, but not reading video (i couldn't read video but didn't care, not going to watch 2 hr movie on 17" screen). In fact I was able to burn video using other program (dvdcopy or something like that)but obviously couldn't use Nero. Strange but this was the prob. Now I can read video and burn using Nero.

Now on to getting it to read in a stand-alone. One thing at a time..................

Thanks again!
