So I'm really stumped on this one and hope someone here can help. Here's the situation. I have a TA-079 motherboard in a PSP that I bought used that physically looks very good (no drops, etc)

The PSP will not turn on with either the battery or AC adapter. No green light, no nothing. With the AC and battery in I get an orange LED but I'm not sure it's actually charging.

I've opened it up and found that the power fuse has continuity and power is getting to the power switch on the button circuit board.

I've tried a pandora battery as well to no avail. Anyone have any clue what could be wrong?

Thanks

I'm not sure what is wrong but if nobody gives you a respond that you need then replacing motherboard might work.

Try to call Sony. They might fix it for a cheap amount or replace it under warranty if you have the reciept or if its under a year old. I personally think your motherboard is fried. Did you try to turn it on without the battery and only AC adapter?

Yea, no dice on the AC. I'm trying to repair it as I have a bunch of spares but I want to fix this one (little side business). I'm just wondering what it could be. Could a chip on the board have gotten cooked or something? Basically I'm just looking for someone with a similar experience as I haven't found one yet in all my searching.

It does sound like the motherboard is fried. Basically there is nothing else that can go in a PSP that would cause a problem like this. Only other thing I can suggest is did you check your power switch. The fact that it charges gives us hope that the motherboard isn't dead.

Hmmmm, that's what I was afraid of. Guess I'll cannibalize it then. Never had one that wouldn't even light up...

Did you get a green light with Pandora? If you created the pandora right, it should turn on by itself as soon as you insert the battery. This way you can see if the motherboard is fried.

Sounds like a switch problem, is the power switch quite lose? When you put the pandora battery into the PSP it should light up the green light. If not then yes, motherboard fried!!!

Theres always the possibility that the LCD has a loose connection as I have experienced a problem where the PSP wouldnt turn on because of this.

Ring Sony and give them a inwarranty serial number and get a replacement :P
