Please get rid of the annoying side bar, or at least make it so you have to turn it on , not off. I turn it off, but when i click on something to read,a thread or artical ,when i return to the page it's back again, and if i'm down near the bottom of the page i can't turn it off withouy going all the way back up. and doing it every time. It realy sucks!!!
Thanks for everything else you do at this site

3 now.. it keeps turning on every so often. I'm going to see if I can add it to my "disallowed frame" list.
###edit### I solved it so you don't have to bother doing anything about it for me.. I can live without it see..
I still think it is a good feature.. possibly not in the right place. There is all that empty space on line 2 of the header next to the "search messages" link.. Any reason for not putting it there instead? There are a lot of duplicated links at the top.
FYI.. the bits I killed are
i.afterdawn.com/v3/topics_tab_eng.gif
and /v3/topics_tab_eng_hilite.gif

Adblock Plus.. firefox plugin ;)
You can play about with java permissions also, but that seems the long way round and you have to keep messing when you hit flash filled sites.

We'll look into the issue of "topics box not staying invisible". Might have something to do with browser's cookie settings. We'll post the findings here.

Yup, i have the same problem here, regardless of browser or OS used. I can't vouch for IE as i don't use it.

It would minimize for me, but every 2 or 3 page changes it was back. I just got fed up with closing it all the time.
It doesn't do this with kazehakase, but does with firefox, mozilla and opera. I don't have Konqueror or galeon.

It is very aggrevating. Makes me have to scroll left to right, to read posts. It would be better at the bottom, instead of on the side........

Today it comes back again. Hitting the close kills it completely.
Think I need to take a closer look at the frames next time it returns.

I'm going to have a pick through the page source.. grabbed 2 (with and without blocks) to see if my script blockers are actually hitting the right targets.
An option.. I have now had a go at blocking
i.afterdawn.com/scripts/browse_hubs.js
### edit ###
That seems to have got it. Along with a block on
i.afterdawn.com/v3/topics_tab_eng.gif
It has gone completely. Will test after a certain time to check it holds.
If other people also want to try this route with it what you need is Firefox and adblock-plus (nobody with the first bit of malware and exploit know how should be using IE anyway)
IE users can try using the "disallowed" or "don't allow images from" (very long time since I even saw IE running except on nubs machines) and specify those 2 links exactly.. otherwise you might screw up the rest of the pages ;).
### edit_end ###
Only experimenting as it may give some pointers to where the problem lies in the code. Will report back on how effective this turns out to be.
############ Off Topic warning ### ;)
One other thing that really really annoyed me when it was pointed out to me.. The word "software" in my sig was being linked by that hotword linker to Microsucks for non logged in users.. I have altered it now to point at FSF.. NOT ON AT ALL.. M$ are NOT the only providers of software!!!

Can you take a screnshot of my last post.. I want to see what it looks like because I have those 2 item sources blocked :)
Looking at it I think the problem may be with the way different browsers implement javascript. I have the full java installed, as I suspect does creaky, not just the minimal "web-java" stuff most people have for browsers.
Quote: ]
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://i.afterdawn.com/scripts/browse_hubs.js"></script>
is where the script is defined..
Quote:
<div class="topics_tab" id="topics_tab">
<img name="topics_tab" src="http://i.afterdawn.com/v3/topics_tab_eng.gif" width="12" height="81" alt="Show topics" onload="preloadImages();" onmouseover="changeImages('topics_tab', 'http://i.afterdawn.com/v3/topics_tab_eng_hilite.gif'); return true;"
onmouseout="changeImages('topics_tab', 'http://i.afterdawn.com/v3/topics_tab_eng.gif'); return true;" onclick="toggleVisibility('topics','show_topics')" />
</div>
Is how it behaves.. It all looks fine, but there doesn't seem to be a trap anywhere to remember user preference. As the Doctor said.. it may be cookie related. (/me loads konqueror with cookie logging to see if that gives any clues) It seems to reset itself when the ads or rss feeds change.
##edit.. changed code tags to quote tags for the sake of the page width

Apparently the script kept the sidebar hidden for only 24h. Now the cookie that sets its status, should stay in place for 600 days.

Just run your cookie cleaner and IT"S back!!! They are trying to cure the problem by putting a cookie in our computers instead of curing it on their end!! This doesn't fly to good with me!!!!!!!!!!
Move it or LOse it!!! It SUCKS BIG TIME!!!!!
