I was wondering how to get skype on the psp, or if you can even get skype on the fat psps? I already updated to the new firmware, I just dont know how to get it.

It's well worth putting custom firmware on regardless of whether you wanna use your PSP as an internet phone or not. It just EATS sony official firmware.
Whats the point of having custom firmware anyways? I dont use homebrew at all, and I buy all my psp games. I don't make "backups", so I dont really need a reason, I was just wondering if I could use my psp as a cell phone type thing. I guess I'll just sell it and get the slim version or something. I knew this was gonna happen when I bought it. Sony has to be such A-holes and release a new psp with more features, and make the original look retarted.

If you just wanna use it for games then fine - I hardly bother with it for games cos most PSP games bore me anyway. With custom firmware it becomes a much more sophisticated multi-media computer capable of many more things and if you've never used homebrew and think it's just a novelty addon you'd have no idea what you are missing. As for using it as a phone - it's a joke. You can skype from your PC easier and better so it's pretty pointless unless you're out and sitting next to a wifi hotspot. Alright for kids to mess about with but not a really practical communications device. That's what mobiles are for and they are getting cheaper and incorporating skype as well - without needing a hotspot - I know cos I've got one :)
Thats cool and all, but I have the newest crappy Sony firmware anyways, so Im pretty much f*cked, unless I wanna go through all that BS with the Pandora battery thing. I think im probably gonna switch for a DS lite or something.

Pandora is a doddle regardless of what you have on the PSP - I used it for the first time on my nephew's PSP recently.. I've had custom since the day I bought mine a couple of years or so ago, and following the guide in this section was easy. Took about 20mins to download the necessary stuff and install it and I didn't even have to think about it really. I have a DS Lite as well and I've used that more for games - they are fun... very nice.
